Is there anyone out there running an A1000 with Insider II board and a 68010
chip instead of the 68000? I am getting errors that look very similar to a MOV
SR,EA (or whatever the invalid 68010 user mode instruction is). However, if I
boot Kickstart/Workbench 1.1 (they don't recognize the Insider II memory
automatically) everything seems to work fine. If anyone has some insight as to
what I can do, please let me know. Thanks.

I have an A1000 with a Phoenix Mother Board in it, with gives me the 2
Meg Agnus chip and the ECS chips. I also have a 68010 MPU installed, I'm
having no trouble with it because I'm running with ROM/WB 2.1. If your still
operating with anything less than WB 1.3, the operating system is not designed
properly for anything higher than the original 68000. There is a program out
there called SUPERDECIGEL, which catches the programming errors or
incompatiblities and translates it to compatible instructions. I suggest you
buy a MultiROM switcher which you can install and it will hold ROM chips, so
you can upgrade to DOS 2.1.

Mark, I was trying to use WB 1.3 when the problems started, but thanks
for the tip. Also, does the memory on your Phoenix board connect directly to
the 68010 (I mean the memory is provides) or does the memory use the standard
bus and is supplied through/by an add-on board? I did more testing and it
looks like the problems are caused by the InsiderII connecting to the 68000
socket. Leave me mail. Thanks.
Hi Mark,
At the present time I don't have any Fast memory, so all my memory (2MB)
is on the motherboard as chip memory. I don't know how the CPU interacts with
the fast memory, so I don't know where the problem would be hardware wise, but
software wise is usually the instruction codes that aren't compatible. That's
all I know.

There is no known incompatability between the 68010 and the Insider II.
If you would, there are a couple of questions I'd like you to answer.
1. When are you getting the errors? Are they random or only when running a
particular program?
2. What version of the OS are you running normally?
3. What happens if you disable autoconfig on the Insider II? (you do this
by turning switch 2 on the Insider II off)
4. Have you checked your system for virsus'? I've seen some virsus that
crash with 1.2 and $C00000 memory that hide rather effectivly under all
other circumstances.
With this information I'll have a much better chance of determining
your problem.

Dean, I get the errors just about any time. Sometimes it is when I try
to start a program, other times it is after I have run several programs and am
just opening a disk window. I usually run Kickstart 1.3 and Workbench 1.3.3.
I haven't tried disabling the autoconfig yet, I am going to this weekend. My
system is virus free. Could it be a bad 68010, I just got it, but it is brand

As we discussed on the phone Friday, your problem appears to be the
68010 chip. If the tests we talked about indicate otherwise let me know
and I'll have your Insider II checked out for you.

Kickstart 1.1??????!!!!!! I Think that some poeple here don't even know
that it ever existed! 🙂 … It reminds me of the good old days when we
sat in front of an a1000 with a second drive and thought that we had made
it into paradise!! What kind off software is causing the errors???
