Hi,
How's about more detail on that Cirrus card for 60 quid? Where did you get it
and which one is it, specifically? Sounds like just what I'm looking for!

I didn't see Gary's original Email – the title just caught my attention.
I'm based in the UK, and am looking for some cheap but decent
quality graphics cards capable of displaying TGA files in TrueColor.
Quality IS important, but I'm trying to go cheap because I'll need
to buy around 3 and more likely 5 or 6.
Any ideas??

Contact Green State Technology at 44 0 531 631163 and ask about the Design
Master S3-801-ISA or the Design Master S3-805-VLB from Vermont Microsystems.
These boards ship with GREAT software for 3D Studio – AutoMate/PRO for DOS.
They also include AutoMate/PRO for Windows, handle 16.7 million colors at 640 x
480, and 65,536 colors at 800 x 600.

I suggest the Diamond Speedstar 24. They ship with decent drivers for 3DS and
AutoCAD (Panacea) and are very inexpensive. About $150. It is an ISA card does
16.7M colors at 640×480 and 256 colors at 1024×768. Actually, I am very
impressed with the speed of the card – even in Windows. I see a noticeable
difference over a Metheus Premier S3 card installed in a Compaq DP 4/33. On the
S3 card screen redraws in Win 3.1 are pretty noticeable when using Alt-Tab.
I've got the Diamond card in my Gateway 4/66 and I rarely notice a redraw at
1024.

Can you get your hands on an Orchid Farenheit (@$220 VLB, $175 ISA)? The
drivers WORK (!), and the card is excellent, with high refresh rates, hires,
and 16.7 million colors at 640×480. It'll also support 1280×1024 for psycho
Autocad work. They also have excellent product support, which sold me. I have
returned four name brand graphics cards because the drivers were really buggy
with 3ds 2.01, and no patch or customer support seemed to make the thing work
flawlessly.

Yep, I'm up in Aberdeen. The wouldn't be a C. Strudwick from CIX would it? I
just got some information on CIX that he supplies Cirrus true colour cards.

If you really want Quality 640x480x24 is not going to cut it. I had a
card that did that kind of work and when I switch I was in shock. I have the
Hercules Gold 24+2 does 24 bits in DOS and 16 bits in Windows. Then I got the
Hercules Chrome (Needs VGA Pass-Through) 🙁
but it does 1024x768x24 DOS Windows and uses the TI 34020 chip (about the most
flexable and fastest chip out) is also handles 3D-Studio very well. I have also
tested Truevision 1024-32, Rapier 24 and #9GXiTC.
Spend the cash and buy the best you will never be sorry.

I was also looking at the Chrome and have thought about the NDI Volante
Warp 10LB-2 with 2MB of Ram. Along with that I would get Vibrant graphics
ProRes/3SD driver software which claims to increase rendering and improve the
look of the Materials editor.
