#Amy trade shows

I'm going to be taking on a new job in a couple of weeks, and in this job I
am going to be required to attend Amiga trade shows in order to gather
information on what's new, whats hot, etc. I'd like to focus primarily on
Multimedia, graphics, video, etc. I will already be attending WOC in Toronto
(since that's where I am moving to) so I already know about that one.
What I need to know is, what other worthwhile Amiga trade shows are out
there, when do they typically take place, and what is the major focus of the
show?
I haven't actually been to an Amiga trade show other than WOC since Amiexpo
in New York, so I'm fairly lacking in my knowledge of what the latest and
greatest trade shows are.
I'd be interested to hear feedback on other types of trade shows that aren't
necessarily Amiga specific, but are general enough in scope that other
platforms are also being hyped and are in a Multimedia frame of mind. Is that
what Siggraph is all about?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Jim – maybe I can help.
World of Commodore Pasadena CA is September 10-12 I believe. Amiga shows don't
tend to have a theme, they just cover all Amiga uses. Certainly multimedia and
video are the big themes!
Regarding, Siggraph, it has become more and more a very technical graphics
show, with conferences on things like how to mathematically describe the
movement of jello (I'm not kidding). It's become pretty specialized toward
high performance graphics cards and workstation vendors.
Amigas are obviously at video shows like NAB (just passed, in Vegas every year
around April time), and to a they are present at the ImageWorld shows (Dallas,
Orlando, San Jose, New York, and DC this year!). I have found Amigas become
less visible at those shows though, although NewTek has been to most of them.
There was a show in New York recently, something like Multimedia World.
Probably something you're looking for.
Shows have become pretty crazy. I suggest you contact a magazine in the know,
like Desktop Video World, for example. You can even email Lou Wallace (chief
editor, I believe) on CompuServe.
