FCII and HPDJ 500C

Hi Softwood! We have a couple of questions regarding FCII and our new HPDJ
500C setup. We are using a 2 meg 2.0 A500 with the Super DJC driver. The
printing times for the 500C are very long…it takes about 5 mins or more just
to print a normal page of black text. To print in color, for example the demo
file "The Bicycle" takes over 30 mins a page. What are we doing wrong? Should
we invest in more memory? An accelorator? Do we have the driver setup wrong?
We also use FCII on our other A500 system (1.3 and 1 meg) with a 24 pin
printer, and printing times are significantly shorter. The other problem we
have with both machines is that sometimes the mouse pointer simply disappears
and cannot be gotten back except to hit a function key, and go through the "no
macro" bit. This is very frustrating for the kids, who are using FCII all the
time for their school papers. Also, sometimes when this happens, the system
crashes. The other problem is that sometimes the text already entered simply
disappears from the screen and cannot be gotten back. If it has been already
saved, then we need to reboot and reload everything. We love the output that
FCII generates, but quite frankly we find that for every day informal writing,
we still tend to drag out our old version of Prowrite. It simply seems to be

First, your printing times do seem a little too long. Please check in
the menus (Project->About->Final Copy) and tell me what the "Created" date
is.
Your disappearing mouse pointer is a bug we have heard about but cannot
seem to duplicate…therefor the programmers can't find the errant part of
the code that needs to be fixed. They have been through the program three
or four times with a "fine-toothed comb" and couldn't see anything wrong
with the instructions that control the pointer. We have ten Amigas at
SoftWood and none of them makes the mouse pointer disappear and stay that
way.
A work-around I have for you is to just tap either ALT key. This
changes the pointer to a different image (while holding an ALT key) and
then restores the normal pointer when the ALT key is released.

Hi Ric. The created date on our copy of FCII is Sept. 28, 1992. (Release 1).
We will try the ALT key fix for the pointer prob. Let me know if there is
anything else we should be doing…thanks. Don W.
