John & Bill,
Thanks for the information about multi-speed drives. I agree with John's
estimation about the prices coming down as they become less new and more
popular.
I was surprised by Bill's comments, I'd never thought of it that way. Do any
of the current multi-speed drives allow you to force them to run at 150KB/sec,
or do you think new ones will offer that?
I had decided to wait awhile for the prices of multi-speed drives to come down,
since I haven't seen any software that I just 'have' to have. But after Bill's
comments, I'm thinking maybe $200 for the Mitsumi wouldn't be wasted (since
there is some software I'd 'like' to have).

Most drives which are double speed do have the ability to drop the transfer
rate back down to the standard 150KBs. However, I decided against implementing
that feature into my device driver. I have only had one request for it, so I
am putting it on my wish list which gets done one of these weekends when I
"feel" like it. Right now, OS/2 is taking all my time. Ick.
Back to your thread about slowing down the drive. Why do you want to do that?
Give me some good reason, and I may put it in sooner.

ps: The CD-ROM driver I am refering to is Procom Technology's SCSI CD-ROM
driver, ProCD. Rather large, but highly maintainable.
