#3401 B or E1
5 messages in this thread
In the ads for Mac CD-ROM drives the Toshiba is referred to as
Model 3401-B and 3401-E1. Does anyone know if there is a difference?
Thanks for any info.

The 3401-B is the internal version; the 3401-E1 is the external version.
Thanks, Eric. That was a very simple answer. I just noticed in the July '93
Macworld they refer to the mechanism as XM-3401TA. I appreciate your
information since I was planning to purchase the external version of the
Toshiba for my Mac.
However, the tests in Macworld do not rate the 3401 as being the best
performer. I was surprised since raw performance numbers show it to be the
fastest.

I'm in the PC world, and at this time the fastest single player CD-ROM drive is
the Toshiba. However, that may change at this week's COMDEX.

Eric – I'll be interested to here of new developments at Comdex. I'll also
be curious to see a "real world" test of CD-ROM drives used for MultiMedia
playback in the Windows world.
