I finally got SoftVTR to work. The missing part and dongle showed up
yesterday. It still wouldn't work so I called their tech support and the guy
said my software was out of sync with the dongle and he would mail me the new
stuff. I asked him if he could send it over modem and he said yes, so he
called me up and zmodemed it to me. It works fine. I recorded my first
animation to tape, using fields, and it looks great!

Glad to hear it's finally working for you. I've been following your plight
because I've been considering buying this softVTR. On using fields– Did you
render directly to tape on the EVO-9650? If so what type of tape did you use?
Rendering to tape with field would have taken its toll on the tape wear.
Rendering to disk first then record to tape should have been no difference than
frame rendering when recording to tape. I'm mainly concerned how the Hi8
holds up to the rigors of long pauses and shuttling.(just for curiosoty sake)
