#3DS Driver Needed
9 messages in this thread
I am a professor at Kentucky State University and have bought into
3D Studio in a "big" way. I plan to develop a new sequence of courses just
for this program. Having taught AutoCAD for 8 years
on this level I am looking forward to the challenge.
My request is simple. In the "muddy rut" of trying to configure systems to
optimize 3D Studio I ran across the IBM 4079 Color
Postscript Printer (360×360 dpi). Since it is manufactured by LexMark and
they are 10 miles away I wanted to give it a shot with 3D Studio. I NEED A
DRIVER FOR IT or info. on how to configure it with existing drivers. It
emulates Postscript version 50.3 and IBM 7372/
HP 7475A Plotter GL.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
Thanks… John English 73730,2126
I would simply pick up the 3D pics in a Windows-based DTP program and print to
it via the Windows/PostScript driver…

John,
instead of wasting your time looking for a 3DS driver just use windows. Any
decent imaging program such as PhotoStyler or Photo Shop will import and let
you print TGA's. All you will need is a Windows driver which will be very easy
to find.

Thanks for the advice. (Why didn't I think of that!)
Thanks!
I echo the sentiments about printing your work with another program — and
Windows programs seem to be the way to go.
3DS supports only the PaintJet 300 XL, and although HP feels their HP DesignJet
650c driver should work, it doesn't seem to. (Yet)

Thank you.
As you can see from the other replies, you probably won't find a printer driver
for 3D Studio. The printer manufacturers haven't created them, and most 3D
Studio owners have found that there are more flexible ways to print Targa or
TIFF output files than would be offered by a printer driver. As a result, the
3D Studio owners haven't had to push the printer manufacturers into creating
drivers, so the printer manufacturers haven't created them. (Am I getting
cyclical here?)

Thank you very much, not only for the advice but for the quality
product that will mean so much to us. I really believe it will
bring many to a new level. "Thanks"
