Hi- Anybody have a good way to make realistic ocean water in
3D Studio? What settings on what materials, and what to
map them on to? I saw one guy get OK results with a
GIF map of a cloudy sky mapped onto a wavy surface.
Any other ways to do it?

I've been mapping a surface with a wavy bump map, while using auto-reflect to
bring in some natural-looking sky highlights from a true environment (a sky
mapped to the inside of a half-globe). This acts something like a real ocean,
even in an animation. Also, check out the water.sxp from the Yost Group IPAS
Boutique. Neat stuff…

I've been doing something similar, mainly using bump maps with some of the
WAVES pxp. What I have not been able to manage is some method of going in or
out of the water. The change is very abrupt. I have tried using a fade in-out
with video post but it still looks dodgy.
