If Amazing Computing is so amazing, how come they screwed up? I got my
copy of the AC Giude and they blew the icons that mark each new addition
and WB 2.0 compliance. This makes it impossible to find what's new. The
entire issue is void of these markers.
I'm not about to read each of the 3400 entries to see what is new. Rather
useless now, isn't it?

I finally broke down and bought the AC Guide recently and was also
disappointed. My interest is spreadsheets, but I didn't see "Procalc" from
Gold Disk listed. Finally I found it classified under "word processing". I
also wanted information on how to order the "Hisoft Basic" program language and
compiler….couldn't find it anywhere. I know it is available. I see it
advertized in UK magazines. Maybe I am just unlucky, but my first impression
of the AC Guide was not very good. Regards, Rick

Well, to quote from the AC Guide, vendors need to register their products
i.e. AC are not omniscient and `notify PiM of any errors. 🙂

Looking at the guide, it seems pretty darned obvious that the simple
volume of information there would require a *huge* effort to police; one
that isn't practical given the diminuative size of the US Amiga mags – all
of them.
The UK mags *might* be big enough to pull it off, but none that I have
seen do this kind of serious reference work.

Yes, I think the guide is a terrific accomplishment and an invaluable
reference combined with my own reading. I suspect it may be the feedback
from some Software house, too little – too late, that is the problem in
some cases.
I feel that C= should get behind it because it's difficult to keep up with
what software is out when you need it and some excellent software
producers don't have big advertising budgets. I find half the time I'm
answering what software exists first rather than straight into which may
be better – Gramma's Order Desk was a recent case in point, 5 queries in
the past fortnight on what ledger/stock/etc software exists.

I find the AC Guide invaluable, but it's always been something to take
iwth a grain of salt. For instance, there are not only programs listed in
there that are no longer available, but there are old vaporware programs
listed in there that were announced years ago and never shipped at all!
Still, for the stuff like company phone numbers, fish disk listings, and
general reference useability I still think AC's Guide is a good purchase.

CYA type of thing I would suspect.

A lot of practical info in one book. I suggest it too all the Amiga
owners I know…

I think the bookstore in the GEnie mall can special order it for you.
Otherwise, there's a file in the AmigaUser library called DENNYBOOK.TXT
that tells how to order a (optionally autographed 😉 copy directly from
COMPUTE. 🙂
