Advice request, CD-ROMs

I saw an ad for an A570 recently that I am considering. I'm not well inform
bout CD-ROM drives in general, and I'm unsure whether this would be a good
investment for me. I'm mostly interested in access to encycolpedias on CD as
far as applications go, (the unit is bundled with Groiler's encyclodedia) but
I'm sure other applications will come up as well.
I have an A500 rev. 6 mother board, with a Base Board memory expansion (2MEG)
and a GVP 530Turbo with a 40 MEG drive and 1MEG 32 bit memory. I don't know if
the A570 is compatible with the GVP530, or if there are other upgrades that
might need to be made. Oh, I'm (still) using wersion 1.3 operating system.

Since the GVP530 has a SCSI passthru port, might it be better to buy one of the
other unispeed drives that are becoming available at low prices instead of the
A570? What is the availability of CD encyclopedia disks that Amigas can use,
or of software that will translate the data from PC/MAC disks to formats that
Amigas can display? (Ma(maybe with vertical scrolling, etc.)
I haven't seen very much of any CD encyclopedis, dictionaries, etc. advertised
for Amigas, dose anyone know what's available? Bartlett's Familiar Quotations
would be nice, for instance. The Gutenberg Project sounds promising, but I
haven't really seen any good description/review of any of these sorts of CD
publications.

Steve, I wish I could be more encouraging but: I had to to hooking to the
Bridge Board side to have access to the kind of packages to which you refer. I
have Encarta and Bookshelf from Microsoft and am very impressed in the degree
that Multi-media is used. I hope that Encyclopaedia Britannica is published in
the future. ED R.
Thanks for the reply, Ed. I was afraid this may be the case. Do you know any
thing about the ha{dwared compatiblity for the A570 vs. the GVP 530 Turbo? I'm
not even real sure that the hookup sites are compatible.
Unfortunately, I don't have a bridgeboard. I do have a Cross PC, but I believe
it would run too slow to be useful for this. Besides, it's CGA. t(If I had the
space for it, I'd even consider buying a seperate Messy DOS computer for the
CD-ROM stuff. But I don't so I haven't.
