68030EC to 68030?

Hi All 🙂
I have an Amiga 4000/30 and though I haven't looked to see if my processor
is in a socket or not, I was wondering if it is socketed, can I just drop
a Real 68030 in (rather than the 68030EC I have now) and expect it to work
properly? I know I can't change processor speeds without the proper
support hardware to go with it, but can I drop a Full 68030 in?

Craig,
my understanding is that you can. The pinouts between the EC and the
full version are exactly the same so, as far as the motherboard cares
about such things, it shouldn't make a difference, except that you have
the added features. In plain terms, all the differences are internal to
the chip, not how it electrically "talks" to the system, so it'll never
notice. You will, of course <grin>.

I did the very same thing – changing an EC 68030 for a real 68030 in my
accelerator a few days ago.
I had absolutely no problems. (The dealer who sold me the chip encouraged
me to try using a slightly faster chip, with a faster crystal, but I
resisted the temptation.)
