Equipment; A1200 GVP A1230 Turbo + II 1 Mb SIMM Internal 2.5" Western Digital 60Mb IDE HD GVP A1291 SCSI Kit Problem; After attaching the A1291 as per the instructions, the Amiga fails to boot from either the HD or FD. The Hard Disk lights up, goes through it's normal rotational checks etc, but when it would normally start executing the startup-sequence, the Ami just hangs, the screen remains grey. Removing the A1291 solves the problem. The A1230 is fitted correctly, the A1291 sits home correctly, I can even screw the A1291 in place with the included screw, but it's no playing ball! I hope that it's not a conflict of the A1291 and the IDE drive, because if it is, the A1291 is going straight back to the dealer 🙁 Thanks Kevin 68030/40 A1200… Flying AutoPilot from Surrey in the UK

Kevin, I seem to remember having the same problem, there is a jumper that has to be removed (or is it jumpered???) It was not listed in the manual, it is apparently for testing. I'll look at mine later tonight and give you more details…………….. Later tonight: Ok, I checked my A1291 and there are two jumpers, JP1 & JP2, make sure neither is shorted, when I got mine, one of them was shorted and I had the same problem, I called tech support and they straightened me out <G>. Also, make sure you are seated correctly, after I just checked my A1291, I reinstalled and tried to boot and nothing happened, wouldn't even boot from floppy with the A1291 removed. It seems I must have misalligned the A1230 unit, cause removing it and re-installing it fixed the problem. =Rick= =Rick=

Kevin, There's no conflict, but you'll need to find out which program in your startup is locking up. Try adding ECHO statements between each line of your startup and see where it fails. Also, make sure that the J1 and J2 jumpers on the A1291 are removed. GVP TECH

Happy now 🙂 I've removed the jumpers (both were shorted) and it sings and dances, now all I've got to do is get my CD-ROM and Tape Streamer working… Thanks PS. If it won't operate with the jumpers shorted, why ship it with them shorted and have nothing in the manual telling you to remove them? This is not a complaint (or personal attack <g>) I've got several GVP products and I'm very happy with them, I'm just curious why they are shipped like that. I'm sure that if they were shipped "plug and play" then you'd have a far easier life. Kevin 68030/40 A1200… Flying AutoPilot from Surrey in the UK
