Aniplay and CD-ROM

I am having a problem running my internal CD-ROM (using Musicbox TSR) in conjunction with Aniplay in order to play a flic file concurrent with a musical background. It seems as though Aniplay is sucking up all my memory and not leaving enough for the CD-ROM play executables. Any ideas? Thanks. – Scott Hilton (72722,2771)

"It seems as though Aniplay is sucking up all my memory and not leaving enough for the CD-ROM play executables." Sorry, I don't know what's happening here. I don't have a CD-ROM to try out your situation on this machine unfortunately. If memory is the problem, there are some Phar Lap variables which allow the manipulation of memory available outside of Aniplay, once it's running. Check the installation guide, or watch this space for more information from other users. Nik

Hi Nik, is it normal for anipro to have only 64k memory left after shelling out to dos ?, and for it to take long periods to load ?? Even on a machine with 20 megs of RAM (486-66mhz based) ??? Does this have something to do with the parameters .exe is loaded or configured with using the pharlap program ? … Tom if you are reading this, I guess you might get an answer. ok, thanks Mark

"anipro to have only 64k memory left after shelling out" Yes, although 64k is not very desirable. You should check out the small (used to be white) AAPro 1.3 enhancements guide, since it talks about adjusting that amount. The slow loading on 20 megs of RAM may be circumvented by a couple of CFIG386 switch settings. If you have DOS 6, you might try the "-MAXVCPI 0" setting, and/or the "-DEMANDLOAD" setting. (I have to mention that these settings are from memory!) Nik

Sorry to jump in, but I had the same problem… If you're using a memory manager (i.e. QEMM, etc.) the DPMI control in the memory manager is probably conflicting with AniPro. I don't know if the update fixes this.

Greg, AAPRO uses Phar Lap similar to how 3DS uses Phar Lap. You will find some useful information in 3DSHEL.TXT. Generally, what applies to 3DS also applies to AAPRO as far as Phar Lap is concerned. The differences are that AAPRO and 3DS are currently using different versions of Phar Lap. The version with AAPRO should not have this problem. Does it happen when you are running NO memory managers at all? Of does this behavior happen when running AAPRO with other memory managers and TSR's? -Brian

Hi Scott, Am I right in thinking that Aniplay can play music from the cd-rom directly from aniplay ??? as part of a script ?? or are you running another application ? Very interesting. I know that play.exe from trilobyte plays all .flc /.fli files at ANY resolution, AND can play tracks from your cd-rom while playing the .flc/.fli files. This program is a stand alone prog. It is only 13k large. from Trilobyte. It is pretty interesting, and very POWERFUL, with it's scripting capabilities. – Have you tried this one ??? It is available on lots of the night owl shareware cds. … Mark Schneider Montreal, Canada.

Yes, I have tried Play.exe "on top" of running MusicBox.exe that plays an audio track but the nice thing about aniplay and animator pro is that you can load large flic files into memory so they play "smoothly". I am currently working with 20+ MB flics on a system w/ 32mb so this becomes very helpful even if I can't have a musical score along with it. Thanks for the interest. Scott Hilton Oakland, CA

Hi Scott, well, glad to help, you have given me insight to other things! that is why I pay my 20 some odd $ canadian each month for membership and connect time… to live and learn! I learn something each and everytime I'm on here! bye for now Mark PS. there used to be a company that made a product called: AASOUND, but .. I think Nik (sysop here) told me that the company no longer exists!, I'm glad I didn't put some 800$ in to their product about 3 years ago. Anyway, I am surprised that AutoDesk doesn't come up with a product! – new product, more money to spend ! good luck! Mark
