I just purchased Imagemaster R/t 1.5 last week (you guys should have my reg.
card by now…if not, I can wait). I can't seem to scale an image down unless
I use CLIP .5x. I set the "SCALE TO NEW SIZE" button in the save panel and
adjust the sliders to the size I want…nothing (unless I save an Amiga
rendered image…then it seems to work). JPEG, TIFF, IFF-24 all seem to ignore
the size change. Am I doing something wrong? (I want quarterscreen images,
hires display.)
Also, IM R/t crashes when I am using AGA mode in AGA emulation with my Retina.
(I know, this is most likely the fault of the Retina. Just thought you'd like
to know. 🙂
Finally, it'd be nice to have the IM R/t panel be able to open on a public
screen, in a window instead of the overlay screen it uses now. I'm thinking
specifically of the window-style used by the new ADPro (but with a different
scheme for buttons, etc. as that one is confusing) for use on display cards
like the Picasso, Retina and EGS.
Other than that…it is an great program. I teach graphics/image processing
classes 5 nights a week at the local community college/vo tech school and love
to show Mac/PC people Imagemaster. (Yeah, we have Photoshop so why bother? ME:
Photoshop is $795 and IM R/t is $79.95 [local store], that's why. They can't
believe it!)

Scaling works by you choosing an area select tool; then the scale to new
size option, then you pick the settings you want, and then you select the
area. If you want the entire image, then select the entire image tool.
Should work fine – it does here.
The Retina AGA emulation is incomplete – until they have a _complete_
emulation, you can continue to expect it to act badly.
IM R/t uses multiple screens, multiple resolutions, at one time. Public
screens, while a nice idea, cannot support this type of environment. So
it's not practical.

Why can't public screens overlap in the manner you describe?
This all is of definite interest to me, because the odds are still good
that I'll get a 4000, and if I do I will DEFINITELY get a graphics card,
and the Retina Z3 is leading the pack at this point, to me.

Paul,
Public Screens can overlap, allright, but the point of a public screen
(usually) is that there is one work area. Something like a gfx card will
generally appear as (1) public screen. So far, we've not seen working
support for multiple overlapping screens on a gfx adaptor… I'm sure it
can be done, but no one has, as of yet.
If you get a 4000, IMHO you don't _need_ a gfx card. The 4000's output
quality is outstanding.

Oh, that's right – no support for multiple overlapping screens with gfx
cards. I really don't understand why at least -some- cards don't support
it – it's a hallmark of the Amiga, and a TREMENDOUSLY useful one at that.
As to needing a gfx-xard on a 4000 – I'd want on for larger screen
resolution. I'd want at least 1024×768, and probably 1280×1024. I've got
a NEC 5FG with my 1200 languishing at 720×612.

Why not set your 1200 to 800×600? Don't like the interlace, I'll bet.. me

Ben, Now is as good a time as any to bring this up, with all this talk of
public screens. I do not believe this is a fault of IM/rt but: I run a
commodity called defpubscreen that allows the frontmost active screen to
be the default public screen. I use this util for a variaty of reasons
such as my calculator, cli, phonebook ect open on the default PS (I launch
them from hotkeys). This is all fine and good untill I start IMr/t. It
starts and runs fine but anytime I start flipping screens from IM, the
control panel can end up anywhere, ie workbench, Directory Opus, even AP
if I have it running. Is there an easyway to `glue' the control panel to
IM's own screen? No big deal here just an inconvenience (that I can and
will live with, before I give up the convenience of DefPubScreen), just
some input for you.

No, there isn't, really. 3.x has some "glue" stuff, "daughter" screens,
but the functionality isn't there under 2.04 so we can't use those
techniques. BTW, what your program is doing is _completly_ illegal with
regards to the system software, and in fact can cause worse problems than
just having the control panel hijacked.

upgra an upgrade be?

Hmmmm. well if any problems crop up that will be the 1st place I look.
But it is extremely convenient to pop my phone book or calculator up on
whatever is the frontmost screen, whithout have to flip back to the
workbenck (sometimes I have 5 or 6 programs running). The deal with IM/rt
is just inconvenient and no problem at all. Thanx for listening!

Steve,
Please remember that even if you have 5 or 6 screens open, the Workbench is
never more than one key combo away. Just press LeftAmiga-N; this brings
Workbench to the front immediately.
