Hi, I was looking at AAPLAY.exe and found that it had so many great effects and transitions, such as loading a .FLC into memory – smooth motion, rather than the hard disk. Anyway, I was wondering whether AAPLAY had a .DLL or something I could use from toolbook so that I could use some of the features, rather than the silly MCI stuff that comes with toolbook. Maybe everything uses MCI, but does anyone know how to access the features of AAPLAY from another application, such as Asymetrix Toolbook, which can link to .DLL's and DDE (client atleast)? Thanks, John

And for even more detailed information than what is available to download, you can order the Window Player developers Kit, which includes programmers reference manuals for the DLL. It cost about $25 and can be ordered from 800-879-4233. -brian

Brian, I've been using Autodesk's VBX file to play a series of FLC files. My problem is that these FLC files are an "attract" loop for a touch screen kiosk system. After about 3 or 4 days of playing, my VB app gives me an "Out of Memory" error. This FLC file is the only thing that is playing. The VB App is running on a Windows NT machine. I received a comment from another FLC user, who said that the AAPLAY.DLL does have a memory leak in it. He said he notified Autodesk. Is there any word on this?? Will there be a new update to the DLL?? Thanks in advance, Dave

A memory leak is certainly possible, but I haven't heard about it. Could you track down the reference for me? I would like to hear more. I will also forward this to the programmers to see if they know anything about it. I have never run the .DLL on an NT machine. I don't know if ther are any considerations for that environment. I will see if I can find more info on that. As far as updates, I am not allowed to talk about future releases. Sorry. -Brian

Brian, Below is a copy of the posting I received in one of the Microsoft forums regarding the Autodesk VBX and DLL players. Since receiving this, I have downloaded version 1.02 (AAPLAY.DLL dated December 1993) of the DLL from your forum. I'm trying to see how long it will run without bombing. Any information you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated. We have a tight schedule and if we are having trouble with the FLC files, we'll have to do all future development with AVI files. Thanks for any help you can give!! REFERENCED MESSAGE: Dave, > However, after a day or two, it seems that the application gives me an "out of memory" error. Found the problem. There are 2 properties; Color Cycling and Use All Colors; setting Color Cycling to false will produce a decrease in memory everytime the animation is run. If you have AAPlay you can produce the same results: load aaplay, load a flic, set Color Cycling off, check your memory (program manager, help, about), start and stop the loaded animation a couple of times and then check memory. I've posted this over in Asoft and am waiting for a response. Tim Hitchings – 73637,66 Using: Windows NavCIS PRO 1.1
