I don`t know too much about hard drives but I have fitted on to my 1200. There are two sizes of hard drive that I am not sure you are aware of. The drive that fits into the 1200 is a 2.5 inch. These have connectors whcih have too many pins that need to be fitted. There are two sets, one that has more than the other. You will need to fit a small cable to the group of pins that has the most on it. the other group of 5? pins do not need to be connected. The cable is small and is just a case of taking them out of the drive and into the 1200. The other size 3.5 inch will not really fit in and you need a larger connecter that has some jump lead that needs to be connected. The Quantum drive should be alright, as all or most drives work fine. All you need to do is format the drive (like a floppy) and it should work fine. MO'B >>Are there any HDs that _shouldn't_ find their way into a 1200?<< Yes. The A1200 uses the official IDE standard, including official features that weren't normally used by most IBM's. A few IDE's work perfectly in IBM's, but actually have bugs in there firmware. The bugs didn't affect IBM's since they were in unused features. One feature that the A1200 requires is the READ MULTIPLE, and WRITE MULTIPLE, these commands involve operations preformed across interrupts. Normally, IBMs didn't worry about doing this. A program for the IBM called "Rocket Launcher", increases IDE drive speed by using these features. If the IDE is "capatible" with this program, then it PROBABLY is compatible with the A1200.
