#3.1

Ah. I just picked up an A1200 (not, at the moment, easy to find) which of
course comes with WB 3.0. So gather from what you're saying that I can't
reliably use the 3.0 diskettes to upgrade from 2.1 on my A2000. Right?
Go ahead and try. The install disk will tell you that you must have a 3.x
ROM.

It -has- been done, hasn't it? I mean, what would happen if you just
changed the install script to fail on less than.. a V37 ROM? (That would
be it, right?)
Paul
Then you'd end up with something completely useless. All the libraries
and c: commands and etc., won't work on less than a V39 ROM.
It isn't that C= is trying to force you to buy a ROM. It's that the 3.0
disk set must have the 3.0 ROM to work. They depend on the new system
routines.

Of course, if you can get the ROM routines and softkick them you should be all
set.

Dale,
About the A2000 crusing on 3.1: I don't even think the A2000 is able te read
the 3.1 Workbench-disks in 1.3-ROM. If I boot with 2.0 ROM the 3.0-workbench is
booted normally, without error-messy's.

Oh. I'd read about someone running 3.0 and getting great disk transfer
speeds on a 1000.
Paul
There are developer tools and kickstart images that let the right people
do all kinds of things that can't legally be done by anyone else.

Hi, Dale,
>> It's that the 3.0 disk set must have the 3.0 ROM to work. <<
How, exactly, does one go about finding out the number associated with the
ROM(s) in an A3000?
My interest is that I am interested in using MOSAIC on the Amiga, but it says
it requires OS3.0. I *just* installed 2.1; will I have to get new ROMs to run
3.0? If so, I'm afraid MOSAIC is out.
TIA for any information.
Brian
No one besides developers, A1200 users and A4000 users has 3.0 legally.

I see. Do you know if it even *runs* on anything else. (Maybe a 486 machine?

Brian
Yes I know.
Of course 3.0 runs on A2k, A500, A3k, etc. If you have a kickstart ROM or
other way to do kickstart. It has some bugs, and 3.1 is much better
suited to the ECS machines (as well as fixing non-ECS specific bugs and
adding some features).
