Does anybody know if I change the jumper on my 4000 motherboard that says 2 or 8 megs(I think it said "chip"next to it) , and install a 8 meg simm(if there is an 8meg simm) I would have 8 megs chip, and if the system would use it? // Gary B. Gary >>Does anybody know if I change the jumper on my 4000 motherboard that says 2 or 8 megs << Nope. That jumper was added to the motherboard when the Alice chip was still under development. The Alice was never upgraded to address more than 2-megs of CHIP, so the jumper is useless. I've heard that the jumper can be used to REDUCE the amount of CHIP RAM to only 1-meg. If the Alice ever gets updated to access 8 megs then I could swap out the Alice and change the jumper ? // Flying high on Autopilot from Oxnard,California \\// GARY B.

Gary >>If the Alice ever gets updated to access 8 megs then I could swap out the Alice and change the jumper ?<< I don't know. It would require remapping of the CHIP RAM to another location. As is, if the CHIP memory were to expand from a 2meg chunk to an 8-meg chunk, it would overlap 6-megs of the Zorro-II memory area, leaving only 2-megs for FAST memory. If there were another jumper for remapping the CHIP memory into a reserved area in the Zorro-III range, there wouldn't be a problem. I do remember Dave Haynie talking about it being possible to design the Agnus/Alice to see its CHIP memory area at a different location. I don't think the Alice, was designed to physically access the extra memory, and if not it wouldn't be pin comaptible once it was expanded. Ron. – ap'ing with AP.
