I have a problem. Maybe someone could help.
I have a 1084s monitor which has 'gone bad'. I took it to a C= authorized
service center which repairs monitors. They did the diagnostics, located
the defective part, and called C= to order the part.
Guess what. Commodore, bless their little hearts, does not sell parts for
monitors. My repair shop tried for several weeks to locate the part I
need. We finally gave up. I paid the diagnostic fee, and the monitor is
now sitting on my desk at home.
I tried an Amiga dealer, just to get a second opinion on whether I could
get this part from C=. It is true. C= sells monitors, but they do not
sell replacement parts for the monitors.
So what do I do next?

Last time I had a monitor repaired (A1080) these people fixed it for me
without any trouble getting parts.

Thank you very much for the information. First I am going to check with
people who have old monitors I can scavange parts from. If that doesn't
work, I will call General Computer Service.

This happens a lot when 'subsystems' are used by equipment manufacturers.
Anyway, chances are the 1084 you have was made by Magnavox/North American
Philips. Try getting your service center to call Philips Service Company
for the part(s) at Greeneville, TN, 615-636-5780 (this is off one of my
invoices, but you'll be able to get another number for parts…).

monitors first, and if that doesn't work, I will check with Philips.

I see you have got a couple of good suggestions on locating parts… If
those don't pan out, I have a couple of junker monitors at the store where
I work. What part do you need? BTW, There are at least 3 versions of the
1084S. Phillips made one of them, Daewoo made the other two.

I need a flyback, part number MSH1FCT81. If you would be willing to
scavange from an old monitor, I would prefer that to buying a new part.
If it works, it is potentially less expensive. How much would you want
for the used part?

Flyback, eh? Well, I don't think I can help you with that. All of the
junkers have horizontal problems of one form or another. I wouldn't trust
the flybacks. BTW, if memory serves, a new one would be about $40.
