new POCO
18 messages in this thread
Hi Nik; Hey dude, just wanted to let you know that I uploaded one of the
forthcoming routines we're (Toxic Frog) working on for Animator Pro. I said it
before, ANI is one of the most powerful raster-editors out there, and it's
because of POCO's open-endedness that these routines are even possible. I'd
like your opinion on CELSPR.ZIP (CELSPRAY.POC)… let me know if more of these
routines would be of benefit to the tappers here. Mark McGraw and the NAAUG
faculty have started up the telecourses again in the ACAD forum section 14. The
sooner we get a section here, the sooner we can start making these files
available to ASOFTers. Looking forward to your feedback. -dave

Sure – I'd love to check it out. It's great to have POCO routines – and I'll
mention your contribution to Mark Gerhard, the Animator Pro product manager.

I and two other guys (Mark McGraw and Greg Schutz) formed a company a few
months ago… we're in process (among other things) of building toolsets for
many of the programs we use (including 3DS and ANIPRO)… looking into serious
IPAS and POCO development… already we've created several tools for our own
image construction in POCO… if you like CELSPRAY.POC, I'd be happy to post
some of the others we have around that tappers might enjoy here. And if Mark
(Gerhard) would like these to become supplemental to the standard Anipro
distribution (some of them are pretty powerful), I doubt Toxic Frog Inc. or
NAAUG would have a problem with it. -dave
"if Mark (Gerhard) would like these to become supplemental to the standard

This is generous – Mark is gone for a week.
The CELSPRAY I haven't really had a chance to play around with. I downloaded
it; it seems to be working well! Thanks.
Is it possible to spray over time? I mean, you start spraying the first image,
then the second image is created on frame 2 along with the first image. On
frame 3, you have 3 images. When you play the animation back, you see the
effect being created in front of your eyes.

Hi Nik,
is the celspray zip on-line ? meaning is it available for the general public ?
It looks tres intersting!

Title: CELSPRAY v1.0 – a POCO routine to apply CELs
Keys: POCO CEL SPRAY ANIMATOR PRO NAAUG TELECOURSE TOXIC FROG
This routine allows CELs to be sprayed into the current
frame much the same way SPRAY allows the current brush
to function. It is the first of several routines coming down
the pike from Toxic Frog, a shareware outfit comprised of
three guys with a lot of time on their hands (sarcasm
intended). It is freeware, but was promoted by NAAUG and
the telecourse project. Place the POCO routine in your
RESOURCE subdirectory and try it out.

It is free to the general public. Have fun, and if you'd like to see more of
this kind of thing, let us know. We use Animator Pro as much as we use 3DS, and
your feedback drives our internal utility genenration. -dave

Wnen he has some time, I'd be interested in his feedback too.

I really appreciate the info you sent us on POCO… it was responsible for
things like this… really! I would like more info on POE's, how to register as
a developer (since you're seeing firsthand some of our smaller projects at
work), and what it takes to build POE files… some are relly getting intense.

Absolutely. I should have some time on my hands later this week… I'll
implement the feature then. Cool idea… I like this suggestion and can already
see some neat applications of this ability.
p.s. hope the 6 .GIFs and the .DOC files helped to show some of the potential
of this routine. If you and Mark approve of future uploads, we'll continue to
provide images along with the routines so that (like Gary's images for IPAS)
people see the application of the routines. -dave

Nik,
Some time back I uploaded a POCO program called RandCell that accomplishes
exactly what you are asking. It will randomly place a cell over an entire
animation over a specified number of frames. You can also limit the area you
want to be utilized in the frames – for example to just use 1/4 (or whatever)
of your 640 x 480 animation. It is in the POCO library I believe.
HI Joe,
hmm, this sounds interesting, perhaps you Nik can leaf thru the files and get
us the name of it!
thanks Nik! hehe
Mark Schneider, Montreal.
Mark-
It's called Randcell.zip and it's in the Animator file library.
Joe
Hi Joe,
Merci buckets for the info,
this will help quite a few users.

You might have found it already, but here it is:

This poco program will randomly place a cell over a number of frames.
Many variables giving the program a lot of flexibility. Experiment for
multiple effects depending on what kind of a "look" you want. Fully
working shareware. QB's Computer Animation & Graphics.

Hi Nik,
thanks again for the info!,
I'll get that one …
ps. what the heck is happening with the file base ???
today is wedsneday, and still no new files uploaded ???
what about version 1.1 of that poco routine, (celspray ?)
it was uploaded last friday !
ok, maybe you guys forgot to drop in in the drawer.
bye for now

HI again Nik,
is aaplayhi capable of playing audio cd's while playing a flc ?

Sounds similar except for the cumulative effect, Joe. Check out CELSPR.ZIP for
the added functionality. Nik should have it available soon. -dave
"POCO program called RandCel"
I must have missed this (by the way, sorry I am late on this thread. I was
away for a few days). It looks great! I hope that Marc and Dave take a look
at it. Good options, including being able to do it over a single frame.
I notice that it's presented as shareware. Did you get any money from this?
For a wishlist (this is to Dave as well): I would like to use my mouse to
position the cel over the frames. If I could use the draw tool and write my
name "live" over frames… Sorta like playing back a macro but have the effect
be a playable animation. (It wouldn't have to be *my* name – it could be
someone else's!)
Also – I notice that at 320×200 some of the dialogue options are off the edge
of the screen a little. There were a couple of very long horizontal options
that would have been better if they were shorter. I realize that you haven't
worked on this for a while and aren't soliciting feedback, but I was excited by
the effect of watching the screen build up with the cel. One last thing – I
probably would modify the routine's messages with the thought of someone using
it frequently. There are a couple of phrases that I would get tired of reading
again!
I will make sure that Mark Gerhard (product manager) is aware of these
routines. I believe he is still away though. I have estimated that there are
2 POCO users out there – looks like I was wrong!
Nik
Hi Nik,
there is a program that does this, a poco, that someone wrote!, remember the
little picture of santa ? with a small child ? the flc is on the board
somewhere, the guy who wrote it uploaded a sample flc of santa and his child,
the flc starts with a picture, then you see slowly bit by bit as if someone is
wiping away parts of the picture, and another picture is revealed under the
other one. What is cool is that is is like realtime wiping or "painting reveal
paint", very cool, I'll check my stuff and tell you the name of it, it was very
nice, but was not shareware, a few $$$ to buy the routine.
I'll let you know
bye
Mark
