WShell solved
14 messages in this thread
Hello Bill,
I took my time and reinstalled my whole system with WB3.0 and WShell. The
problem I had running WShell is gone.
It was: all files were ok, except that they did not have the Purity bit set.
That's what made the Guru visit me often when calling WShell.
Now one last problem. I'm using DHOpts to setup the default setting for
WShell. But WShell (without any futher parameters) doesn't open the window when
called at the position I told DHOpts to open at. Am I doing something wrong,
again?
My DHOpts setting is: DHOpts CON:/250//130/WShell/ …. further options.
Thanx for your support and patience. If somebody's asking you again for a
problem running WShell, the solution may be as simple as mine. He should just
take care of the purity bit of all files.

Hi Mike,
I'm glad to hear you've got WShell runnig well on your system, though I can't
imagine why the setting of the "Pure" bit for any files would matter. Some
executables are pure; some aren't — although it can be dangerous to say that a
file is pure if it really isn't.
Regarding your window setting — there are several levels of defaults for the
DisplayHandler. You can define a default for a given device name when you
issue a command, and then define another default for the shell itself with the
env/shellwindow variable. Device-level defaults work no matter who opens a
window, but the shellwindow value will override the window definition for
WShell. (And the newwsh console argument will override the shellwindow value.)

Thanx,
I'll take a look into it.

PS: Are you working/will you be working on a enhanced version of ARexx which
will support the FORMAT command of REXX and others as well?

Mike,
At the moment we're sending out customer surveys to guage the market interest
in future versions of ARexx. We have received requests for the REXX Format()
function, but haven't made any decisions on what features or improvements would
be targeted in a new release.

Bill-
Do registered owners of Amigas with 2.0+ count as ARexx customers? Or
only peope who buy the developers' kit?
Paul
Paul,
We only have registrations from those people who bought our ARexx package. We
have no way of contacting those who received ARexx as part of a Commodore
system, as Commodore doesn't make its customer lists available (if they track
them at all.)

Before CBM bought the license to distribute ARexx with their OS, I bought
ARexx from your company. Is my name still listed in your database? I'd
love to keep my ARexx up-to-date. *B^)

Can I respond here? As a long time ARexx owner, you bet I'm interested in
future versions of ARexx! 🙂

Daniel,
You should be getting a customer survey very soon — we're sending out the next
batch this week.

Bill,
this sounds great! Please tell me as soon as you know if/when the improvement
will be made.
Do you want any ideas from me as well??
Perhaps you should also ask the rest of the users here on CIS.

I'm the resident AREXX programmer at Amblin Imaging and thought I'd drop
you some e-mail. Keep me posted on any future developments with AREXX as
it got me programing again. I used to program in APL,
Fortran/Pascal/Basic, and sundry other languages, but AREXX gives me
everything I need, plus control for all of the Amiga's finest aps.
