#3D MODELING LAB
7 messages in this thread
Hi Philip,
Picked up your book yesterday. I've been wanting to test Imagine for
the pc. since I saw the Amiga version on a friend of mine's
computer. With your book I can check it out relatively cheaply before I
decide to upgrade. My friend tells me that 3.0 has lots more features so
I'm sure I'll be heading that way. Thanks again, I can appreciate the time that
goes into writing these books.

Lisa,
Thanks for buying 3D Modelin Lab. Actually, you are the first I've heard that
has found it on the shelf. Where are you and what store did you buy it in?

Version 3 makes the program much easier to work with…for novice users…and
professional users as well. It also as some really cool tools that make many
modeling tasks a snap. I had a hand in the first draft of the manual, so you
will find the upgrade to Version 3 relatively painless. The manual gives you
much more specific help using Imagine's tools and navigating around its
interface.
I'm always curious about how new users consume the book, so feel free to send
me your comments…good or bad.

Phil:
I found 3D Modeling Lab in a Crown Books here in Maryland last Thursday, the
day after I saw your first post on the subject. Which kinda bugged me, because
it took Flights of Fantasy almost a month to find its way into the same store.
<gg>
BTW, the book is great! Congrats!

Chris,
Thanks very much. It must of "flown" out of the warehouse.
BTW I'm still using Nanotechnology Playhouse as a demo. A friend of mine used
the demo to land a $250,000 bank demo. She owes me big time <g>.

Yeesh! I'd demand a cut of that if were you. Heck, I may demand a cut of that
myself! <g>

Laurie,
3D Modeling Lab is a step-by-step tutorial in 3D modeling using Imagine 2.0 as
the "laboratory." It teaches you the concepts of 3D creation as well as basic
techniques and tips. Imagine 2.0 is bundled with the book so you can follow
along and learn by doing, in the Waite Group tradition. It also includes a
shareware image processing program, Pictureman for Windows.
Chapter break-out:
Introduction to 3D
Cross-Sectional Modeling
Shading Surfaces
Applying Textures to Surfaces
Lighting Surfaces
Building Photorealistic Objects
Staging and Rendering Scenes
Creating Maps and Processing Images
Modeling Workshop
Animation Workshop
The last two chapters are project oriented. Alan Henry, who is often found in
this forum did the two project chapters for me. They lead you through complete
projects from beginning to end.
Also included are tips from the famous ray-tracer, Mike Miller.
Book ISBN : 1-878739-52-2
