Brian Sorry to barge in .. but it sounds like you could direct me to the right utility. (1) How can I rapidly scan, full-screen, my sequentially-numbered .tga files output from R3. (I don't want to convert to 256 colors). I'm sure there's a solution that will make me feel stoopid – 'cause right now I'm loading them individally into HiResQFX to check for render flaws – not fun on a 300-frame animation. (2) Also, if I do want to convert to a flic file, what's the fastest way to do that? (I have the latest AniPro upgrade, but I haven't really examined it yet.) Comment: Wouldn't it be handy if one could simultaneously save renderings as flics and single frames. Or is there a way to do this Thanks. Gayle G de N, SAVANTES

There is a group of utilities in the libraries here called 3dsutil.zip, sharware by John Ellis, that has show3ds.exe in it, which will rapidly load one .tga file after another into your framebuffer for previewing, but it only works with a framebuffer like Targa+ or Illuminator Pro, or ATVista, etc…. The zip file has a bunch of other excellent utilities like deleting a range of .tga's, shift3ds for shifting a range of .tga's, dumy3ds for creating a sequencial range of .tga's from one original .tga, and such. Really great stuff! John Tissavary (LUNA cie)

Gayle: >> Wouldn't it be handy if one could simultaneously save renderings as flics >> and single frames. Or is there a way to do this? Here's a way: Write a batch file and run it from within Video Post to see if your last frame minus 1 is done. "IF EXIST TEST0299.TGA" If it doesn't exist, do nothing, and the machine will continue rendering. If it does, have your batch file run DTA.EXE (Dave's Targa Animator) available in the libraries here to compile the targas into a flic. Next morning, you have both to review. Voila! (I haven't tried it, but it's a great theory! Let me know if it works! <g>) Greg Pyros PS – The reason you need to subtract 1 is that the batch file runs before the targa file is saved. If you check for the last targa, you'll never get to it!

<<have your batch file run DTA.EXE (Dave's Targa Animator) available in the libraries here to compile the targas into a flic. Next morning, you have both to review.>> Good idea! I just started trying to figure this one out a couple days ago! Got any idea on how to convert the aspect ratio from .8333 back to 1? I am going to have to render a frame to disk, run DTA, then save the frame to the PAR, but I would like to have the flc compiled at 640×480. (Man, ya' give 'em an inch…) –John

John: Man, you do want a lot! <g> Doesn't DTA allow you to save the file in different resolutions? That would change the aspect ratio for you as it was being compiled into a flic. Greg Pyros

Map it to background and rerender it at new resolution. Goes pretty fast!

In addition to the excellent responses you've already received, let me add that Picture Publisher 4.0 has a great macro function that lets you batch process files with any one of a number of image-processing effects. Though it doesn't handle sequentially numbered files, as such, it lets you select multiple files in its directory (typical Windows Ctrl-click or Shift- click selection) and then apply whatever you've set up to all the selected files. You could conceivably set up a macro to simply load, display, and then remove images if you want to quickly scan through them, or you could apply Photoshop-type effects to multiple images. – Jack

Hi guys Maybe you should checkout Image Alchemy 1.76 (great batching control over sequentially number files) GH
