Ken, Actually, no . (Yes, I saw that sly grin !) If you render to disc in
Topas 4.0 you keep the Alpha and image together in one file and only when
you layoff to tape from disc do you then specify splitting off the alpha to
a separate location or machine. Not as versatile as 3DS but at least there
is SOME minimal functionality addressed toward Alpha channel usage after
all these years. . .

Either I am mis-reading the alpha split procedure for Topas 4.0, or they
really have their heads up their algorithms. What does the alpha layoff
"look like"? Is it white on black or what?

The Alpha channel traveling matte pass generated by Topas 4.0 can be white
on black or black on white . . . user selectable. What is it that you find
unclear about the interface ?
