PMFJI, but I have a user who prefers the Video Toaster over a PC based product (because he likes the way it works) but is leary over the fact of "no hardware to run it on". How is NewTek handling this? Are they porting the software to another platform(s) or are they going to ride out the storm? Personally, I know nothing about Amigas nor NewTek. This is just a favor for the other user. I would love to hear from one of the NewTekkies, if possible. What is your opinion on this? David.

Right now, it seems highly likely that the Amiga line will continue under new ownership. As for NewTek, they made an announcement of ongoing commitment to the Amiga and no mention was made about porting the Video Toaster hardware and software to another system. Part of what makes the VT as special as it is, is the Amiga OS and hardware. -= Vance =- Image Master Flying high on Imagine and Imagemaster R/t!

Perhaps the Amiga is extremely fortunate that Newtek has had such incredible difficulties porting their product. -John M. Vreeland in South Carolina

I don't recall Newtek ever attempting to port the Toaster to other platforms. The closest they came to that was making a ToasterLink network for Mac and Amiga. -= Vance =- Image Master Flying high on Imagine and Imagemaster R/t!

As I understand it, there was an attempt to move the LW render engine to Windoze NT, but that was dropped. Chris – Fast and Low on my '020! "Are we having fun yet?!?" -Anonymous A1200 User

Not really. If I remember correctly, it was that ScreamerNet will allow the Amiga and Toaster to use a Windoz NT based RISC machine, amongst other RISC machines. -= Vance =- Image Master Flying high on Imagine and Imagemaster R/t!

>>highly likely that the Amiga line will continue under new ownership. Sheesh! Vance, your playing around with someone else's money. You should be careful to point out that the only rationale for that assessement is a whim and a rumor. There are currently no hard facts to support "highly likely"… I think for someone looking for information like that, there is no point assuring them of something we only wish were true at this point, without saying it is only a wish… wmc – via Autopilot!

Sorry. Like you, I forgot to insert "IMHO". *B^) -= Vance =- Image Master Flying high on Imagine and Imagemaster R/t!

Yeah, I try to be careful about the "I think…It seems to me…It would appear… IMHO". But late at night and in a rush, I'm sure I've forgotten a few. Hopefully not when money is involved, tho…(oops)! wmc – via Autopilot!

I prefer IMHO… It's just… so much more "polite"… Useful, especially when money is involved. "Yah, becuz yo've ben so poolite, wa'll let yo' go back to yer wife an' brats. But here's a lil' sum'tin to 'member us… <!*snap, crackle, pop*!> (apologies to Rice Krispies)" *B^) -= Vance =- Image Master Flying high on Imagine and Imagemaster R/t!

Hey, FYI, picked up a video mag today – it listed a PC, Apple and C= VT in the apps area.

Which mag was it? I the computer graphic trade mage you can occasionally find some work done on Amigas but NEVER a mention other than: "…with an Amiga 4000" or such. -John M. Vreeland in South Carolina

I'll look for it in the PX tomorrow – it was one of those video mags which concentrate on tape formats, monitors and cameras, and less on stuff like title makers. I was pretty shocked! btw, they also listed the C= A3000T for $2800, and some version of MacII(c?) for $2100. What really threw me for a loop was the PC-version VT description of 'broadcast quality'.

>> I'll look for it in the PX tomorrow You mean to tell me that AAFES actually allowed something with the Commodore name in to the stores? That shocks me! I think I still have the copy of AmigaWorld where C='s military liason was saying that the BX/PX dropping the C= was only temporary, and would be remedied soon…. never to be heard from again! There is a CDTV on the "discount table" at the Bragg BX however, it's 328 bucks tho… Chris – Fast and Low on my '020! "Are we having fun yet?!?" -Anonymous A1200 User

You read that too, eh? I actually called AAFES' Dallas office to find out when they'd have more C= stuff in stock. But, no, the only C= stuff they have anymore is AW – and I've got a subscription. No, this mag is not really connected intimately with C= products (I still have to make my way over to the PX – will so do later today)

Do you mean that they make a PC and an Apple flavor of the VT? David.
#145382From: Garry NelsonMay 13, 1994 12:48 PM
According to this magazine's application listing, yes – will post more on this later today.

The only VT I've seen for the PC and MAC is an A2000 with no keyboard, and a VT card, being tasked by a PC or MAC "host"… if that is an applicable term. Chris – Fast and Low on my '020! Clap On! <clap clap> Clap Off! <Clap Cla{{*&NO CARRIER

CL>The only VT I've seen for the PC and MAC is an A2000 with no keyboard, CL>and a VT card, being tasked by a PC or MAC "host"… if that is an CL>applicable term. Actually, it works like this: Mac users connect to the Amiga via ToasterLink card and software. Then the Mac acts as the switcher, controlling the Toaster and Amiga. ToasterLink is also used to transfer graphics files to/from the Mac and Amiga. ScreamerNet allows the Amiga and Toaster to use various RISC-based machines as rendering engines. One of the RISC machines to be supported is supposed to run Windows NT. And that, according to what I've read from NewTek, is the closest thing to a PC and Mac Toaster you're likely to see. -= Vance =- Image Master Flying high on Imagine and Imagemaster R/t!
