Thanks for the tip about the special 1000 cable. Is it currently available or
an antique? Any special places to look for one? I'm trying the yellow pages.
Also– I note that 2 of you are using autopilot (software?) Sounds like another
clue? This is my first experience with a forum. I'm amazed. Thanks again.

AutoPilot is wonderful for CIS – but it requires OS2.04 or later. Without
a special board that can hold the OS chip, it won't run on the A1000. I'm
sorry about that. We used to have a similar, but less powerful, program
that ran under OS 1.3 and even earlier, but the author stopped supporting
it, and CIS changes made it undependable, so it had to be withdrawn. I
wish we had one to offer you.

Betty: Thanks for both your messages. I'm trying to get this together–
starting without even a manual for that old machine. I'd love my daughter to be
able to get & send Email to her syblings in college. As you can see there's a
lot of computer archeology to be done. With all you guys helping we may do it
yet! What a forum!

I suspect that most of us have an A1000 in a closet or in the garage
somewhere. I used mine for several years before replacing it with the
A2500 I am still using. I'd planned to buy the A4000 – but backed out
when it came without several features that I was expecting it to have.
Anyway, most of us remember the A1000 well enough to answer questions
about it, so please feel free to ask. The purpose of this forum is to
help people get the most from their Amigas, and without questions – what
would we all talk about every day?

Mine still sits in front of me now. The 1084 I use with my 1200 sits on
top of it, and it's little keyboard is tucked neatly in the "garage".
I feel the urge to play ArcticFox coming on… so I keep it around until I
snap!

The best place to check for wierd cables is Redmond Cable in Redmond
Washington. Isn't some other company located there also? 🙂
I think most people here use AutoPilot, it saves a ton of money. But it does
need AmigaDOS 2.0 or higher. Glad to help.

Thanks, Richard. I'll check the directory for Redmond. There's an Amiga dealer
in Chicago who says he'll wire one up for me for $10. I may try him first.
It's easy to make a cable, and I know that will be MUCH cheaper.

Ah, let's see do you mean WallData…Attachmate…how many (?) others,
