#Running 3DS Batchfiles
6 messages in this thread
OK. We have a question about running a batchfile from a remote system. We
have created a file which sucessfully loads and runs a render process on
Machine A. Machine B is Lantastic-ed to Machine A. When we CD to A: from
B: and run the file, 3DS loads but we then get a message "Cannot Find View
File" and it bails out. If the answer is in the manual and you all want to
make us find it <grin>, one simply reply from whoever jumps on us first
will suffice <g>. Otherwise, I would appreciate a greater understanding of
how the batchfile works so we can devise a way around this. Actual goal:
to be able to remotely execute animation scripts on Machine A thru a modem
connection to Machine B from home.

We fooled around with this a bit last year, and the best solution I could
come up with was to move closer to the office! <g>
Since we can't do video post (and all it's fun IPAS routines) from batch
file mode, we slowed down on the development of a command line rendering
routine.
Basically, we now just get all machines (eleven) rendering to the network
and call in by modem to verify that they are all working by having a list of
what machines are doing which frames, and checking file sizes and file dates
to see who's done what.
If one stops, I then have to make an executive decision as to who to call to
go in and fix it! (yes, I know – me!)

PS – Do you have a cot in the office yet? <g>
OK, Greg. I "get" that I'm not the only one who has had this problem.
Now, I'd like to hear both a precise description of what we are
experiencing and some suggested solutions either from Yost Group or other
endusers. Surely, since there are obviously a few of us who need this
capability, there is a way to do it. Maybe we could take up a "collection"
in ASoft (I'll contribute a reasonable amount to it) and "hire" someone
here to solve this problem for us.
Let me redefine what we want. We want to be able to execute the VideoPost
batchfile capability from a machine other than the one running the 3DS
software. Right? Anyone have any experience with this? Suggested
solutions?

I don't know of any way to execute a VP sequence any way except from the
user interface in the Keyframer. I don't think there's any way to do it
from the command line.

Ken:
Video Post is impossible from the command line renderer. Period. <no g>
If your renderings can be done without Video Post, or all the renderings can
be completed batch and a final pass in Video Post can be done later, then
there is hope.
If that is what you want, maybe there is something we can do…
Greg Pyros
Yes, Greg, doing renderings without Video Post would be find! What do you
think can be done?
