Now I can just picture THAT!
Actually, it is possible to have a portable that still requires AC power.
Some of the most expensive (and capable) Toshibas require it. I think
most of us would have been pleased to get even that – an integrated
computer and screen, of reasonable size and weight, even if it required a
regular cord and outlet. Or maybe with an auto adapter for running in the
car. Batteries are nice at times, but not always necessary.

I'm using a portable-PC (shame on me) for a while now, and though the battery
lasts for two hours, i'm mostly connect to AC. The handy thing of the portable
is that one can take it to work, and take it back home again. My A1200 can do
the same thing! At work i connect my portable to a VGA screen, at home i use
it's LCD. My A1200 can connect to VGA too and at home i still have a
1084-monitor and a tv.
The battery is handy when one wants to move from one desk to another, for
example if you want to show someone something or use a parralel-cable too copy
large amounts of data.
The whole idea of working without AC and being free to work where-ever you want
is a bit overdone. Don't ruin yourself paying a lot for portability. Don't call
Amnesty International because you're connected to AC-outlet. It's nice when
you've a battery, but it's not that important.
As you see, i agree with you.
Asking for a portable Amiga has very low priority. There more important things
to ask for.
A bit of info,
There are several companies like mine which market "Amiga
Portables."
Silent Paw Productions was due to release a 3000 hack that
would allow you to turn your 3000 into a portable. The
kit includes power supply, monitor (color or mono), and
bays for 2 internal devices such as a floppy and a harddrive.
The card slots are still available and not lost. Please note
this is a kit for 3000s with a 4000 kit in the works. Neither
have been released due to CBM's problems. We are awaiting
to see what the new owner does with support and the future of
Amigas.
If all goes well expect to see the PAWS 3000 and PAWS 4000 on
shelves hopefully before November. BTW PAWS = if you have not
already guessed "Portable Amiga Workstation."
I would like to add that there is another company that is based
I believe in Kansas that has complete Amiga laptop models
sitting on their shelfs due to legalities with CBM. Maybe with
the new Amiga Corp (whatever its formation, hope, hope) they
will be able to market their product as well.

Could you maybe describe these please? Like size, weight, appearance,
price beyond 3k/4k, monitory type – lcd?, power requirements, battery
life, etc?

Currently the PAWS 3000/4000 has the following specs :
Size : 14" x 14" x 4"
Weight : 10 pds (loaded)
Battery : Currently using Toshiba stock lasting an
Adverage of 1.25 hrs per.
Display : Two types available, however it is strongly
likly that Active Color will NOT be offered
due to cost. Other color options are being
explored.
Cost : Not finalized, but I intend to keep this
product accessable. Meaning profit will be
there but not so much to prevent the common
Amiga video user from getting one.
This kit uses your standard CPU components (Motherboard,
floppy,harddrives and cards). The kit comes with Laptop shell
that has keyboard, Screen, and power supply with one battery.
Trackball options both internal and external are being
explored. Apperance most resembles early laptops. Steel
gray is the current color with a fold in handle.
This product was meant for the 3000 or 4000 professional
who needs their Amiga on-site. Those people typically
don't want to cart around many pieces of hardware. The system
allows complete Toaster operations in the field with only
minimal baggage. There are adaptions to the prototype that
we are trying to provide a small video monitor as well to
replace the bulky 1084.
Please note all specs above are approximations to our prototype
which can change shape until final release.

Sounds like it could be neat.. At the very least offer dual-scan color if
you're not going with active as an option – it's not much more expensive
that single and it's almost as good as active I hear.

Sorry,
Can't release that right now. Due to the vendors the price
can go either way. I would rather tell the right price than
to overprice or underprice.
The PAWS will accept either a 3000 or 4000 motherboard, hence
we are QUITE anxious for the dust to settle in CBM land to see
if there will be a "Son of Amiga."
BTW I have heard that it is definite that an "Asian" group has
bought the Amiga. I haven't a clue what this means. I do
hope it works out for the better soon 🙂

Does anyone know if the last run 3000's had a HD flopy
drive.
Mine reads and formats HD diskettes…Wierd

I have heard of some Amiga 3000 having HD floppies as built in as standard.
