Ben, I don't think it's illegal to share materials you've made with anyone – maybe just inadvisable <G>. You can describe in a little more detail what effect you are looking for and maybe we can describe some settings and/or make a suggestion.

What I want is a material thats just like a mirror – or one similar to the marble floor in 3DStudios WaveLogo animation. Do you know the one? I just want a material to reflect the images of the objects around it. I hope you can help. -Ben

Ben, << reflective materials >> see 9-37 to 0-39 in the R2 manual or….. see 9-63 in the r3 manual… This ability is built in to 3ds and tutorial #12 walks you through it very nicely.. jonas[adesk]

Ben, >> What I want is a material thats just like a mirror << like Jonas said, that's covered very nicely in the tutorials. Check them out.

Easy! Do the flat mirror reflection tutorial in the Tutorial Guide that comes with 3DS!

Just on materials….Has anyone been able to model a convincing Diamond??
#102859From: MARTIN G FOSTERMay 19, 1994 12:33 PM
Stuart, a convincing diamond wouldn't be hard to _model_ in 3ds, it'd be just really awkward to _render_ convincingly without the benefit of refraction. Not impossible, though, since it sounds like some of the forum members have come up with a workaround. I'll defer to them since I haven't come up with one.

Yeah…Modelling one was the easy bit!

Yeah, I guess my message was a little misleading. Modelling a diamond take about 2 minutes, getting it to render even vaguely convincingly……..mmmmmmm

you can seperate each cut of the dimond into an element and apply a slightly differant flat reflective map to each element with a slight amount of blur and magnification. or you can build a complete 3d envirnoment with the dimond where ever it is supposed to be and render the seen with automatic reflection on for the dimond. maybe this can work? ara
