1. For a pessimistic review, download A2060.txt. It is somewhat slower (I'm not sure how much, and the reviewer used old software, I think). It is as reliable as any other networking hardware. Certainly all other things being equal I would choose Ethernet, but when you can have a whole package for half the price of one Amiga Ethernet card… 2. Yes. — Dale L. Depends if you are talking about slow Arcnet, or fast Arcnet. Fast Arcnet runs at 20Mb/S, twice as fast as Ethernet. Slow arcnet runs, um, I think 2.5, so there's quite a difference. There's not much of the fast stuff out there, but it DOES exist. And in theory, Arcnet should be more reliable than Ethernet. -Karl

2.5. Yes, in theory it should be more reliable. And not as much slower than the theoretical mbps would lead you to believe. — Dale L. Larson, Intangible Assets Manufacturing

Dale: That is actually faster than I'm currently getting on my small 2 machine network here. I'm assuming it's the PD PC software I'm using (Trumpet Winsock) because when I was running NextStep I was getting around 2.5mbps transfers most of the time, and now depending on which machine I do the transfer from, and if I'm in Windows, or DOS (using other programs that access the packet driver) I get anywhere from 1mbps (on the high side) to as slow as .4mbps and lots of time somewhere inbetween. // -Mike Schiller \X/ AMIGA! 2.5mbps theoretical hardware — not actual performance through the software. Real performance for Envoy between Amigas with Ethernet is around 2.5mbps (300k/s), ARCNet is something less (I haven't measured yet). — Dale L. Larson, Intangible Assets Manufacturing

It's in the News and Reviews section of the AmigaUser libraries. — Dale L. Larson, Intangible Assets Manufacturing
