How does Arcnet compare to Ethernet speedwise? I have a friend who might
be interested in networking his 2000 & 3000 together. On my system I'm
using AS225r2 to connect to a PC, and I've found that the PC software is
the link that makes the connection slow, I just upgraded some of the PC
software, and have managed to double the transfer speed between the 2
machines!

Mike,
Could you give me some details on Amiga <> PC ethernet? I'm using Envoy on
the Amigas and would like some simple file transfer (thats faster than
TwinExpress).

In order to network a PC with an Amiga via ethernet is fairly easy *IF*
you can get the proper software! The software I'm using is a beta version
of Commodore's newer TCP/IP, and with current events being what they are I
don't think it's ever going to be released (unless it was & I missed it).
If you had AS225r2 (the beta software) it's be fairly easy to network the
Amigas to a PC, the PC software is all shareware and/or freeware. (there's
also commercial software available, but it's expensive – around $500.00)
The specific software depends on if you're going to run windows or not on
your PC.

If all you want is FTP, the Amiga works fine with AmiTCP and the PC works
fine with any old cheap/free TCP/IP. If you want NFS, then you have
problems.

Actually I wouldn't mind NFS, however I'm not going to spend $500.00 just
to get it when actually for me FTP works just fine. Not to mention the
problems Amigas have in exporting volumes.
