Player Programs

I hope Roger reads this<g>. He was the one in most need of this info
although I always appreciate this type of knowledge.
Martin,
I log in here on almost a daily basis, so yes, I'm listening. I just don't
always have time to respond right away. Is it possible to make DOS calls
from within GRASP's script player? Is it easy to use? Does it come with a
real manual? And how much is it?
I recently printed one of your gifs of the tile roof home with great
results. Somehow you were able to get much better definition than I'm
getting from my renderings. Could I ask you how large were the shadow maps
and what were bias, etc. set to, and how many lights? Very impressive
work.
Thanks, Roger D.
Roger,
I don't know much about Grasp, unfortunately, so I hope someone jumps in
with specific answers to your question (if not, try the sysop on the grasp
forum). That being said I'm fairly sure it can call other .exe files.
Regarding my house images I have found best results with one spot light for
main illumination (luminance 235-255), low ambient (luminance 9), with a
45-60 degree hotspot and falloff angle quite close to the house, one omni
light for fill light (luminance 60ish), low ambient (luminance 9), shadow
parameter of about 1275, 0.2, 7 – bear in mind the original image was
1275×975 resolution for output to a 150dpi dye sublimation printer.
GRASP will allow DOS calls, external program calls and you can even write
your own grasp commands in assembly or C and link them in. Do you have a
specific application in mind that I could answer a question on? (I am the
original author of GRASP)

Hey Doug,
According to my research it was Charles Babbage who invented GRASP in the
late 19th century. He was apparently trying to figure out how to run an FLC
backwards, upside down and inside out while playing *God Save the Queen* in
MIDI format.<gd&r>

Roger,
GRASP will come with a real manual in its next release in the spring. It's
present manual is its greatest weakness. Multimedia Creations comes with 5
megs of code, including a lot of code you can cut and paste into your own
applications. It has complete examples, including such things as a software
multimedia magazine, kiosk application, interactive slide show, music video
application, an interactive game and so on. It comes bundled with a
color-reduced version of GRASP. Buying the book will allow you to buy GRASP
at half-price when the new release comes out.

Hey Chuck,
Actually Chuck…as you might guess, the book is just a long ad for my demo
business<g>. New law: "those who teach also do."
