#Standalone LightWave

I was reading one of the Internet graphics groups today and came across an
interesting posting. I dont' generally pay too much attention to what I
read online but this is the 3rd different place I've heard this rumor.

We received a Newtek Press Release this afternoon. It
stated that as of June 15, 1994, Newtek will sell Lightwave 3D
in a stand alone version. It will carry a MSR price of $695.
Officially versioned at 3.2, registered LW owners will also
receive a version 3.2 update disk which will ship at the same
time. No mention of the new features and/or bug fixes, just
that it would have both…

Anybody else heard anything about this?
If this DOES happen I'd say Impulse is going to have a bit of a problem.
;^)

Jeff,
I've heard about this. My source – let's call him Deep Toast – told me
about this awhile ago. All I heard was that Lightwave was going to be
unbundled and it was going to happen soon. Sometime around Siggraph, I
understood.

Just to jump in, I wonder if there are going to be different versions of LW?
Already, this means that new owners won't have to buy a toaster card…but will
there, as I wrote above, be a difference. I guess a user has to have a toaster
card for the flyer to work, so that would be a good single framing solution.
I hope this new version is up to specs with some of the advanced features of
other programs already out there. Hmmmmmm, I wonder….how long before LW tops
SoftImage? Hmmmmmmmm?

How long before LW tops Softimage? About 3 months give or take 😉
LW rules! Here's hopin' you're right! GM
That may be a version of the software REQUIRING the Screamernet software
to run, so even if only $695 the Screamernet software is $1995
