I just heard that Lightwave has been unbundled from the Toaster, and
an NT version is due out soon. Has anyone else heard anything about
this ?
Actually, I heard that Alan Hastings is working on an SGI version at
the moment.
Sort-of on the same subject.. what ever happened to the news about
the "screamer" or whatever it was that was supposed to equal two
Cray's in rendering time? I've been a bit out of touch with Amiga.
I'm not positive, but Newtek dropped it and it's being marketed in (I think) a
2-processor version.

Newtek is selling the "screamer" software bundled with the Raptor- a
2 processor system being sold and manufactured in Lenexa, Kansas.
Newtek is still making some $ out of the deal, but they aren't in the
marketing of it. It only hooks up to an Amiga/Lightwave at the
moment. Is supposedly works as fast as 6 P60's, and sells for like
$15,000 with software, $13,000 without (if you need multiple
systems). That's as much as I know.
Yes, NewTek has announced the unbundled LightWave for the Amiga at $695. In
other words, you don't get the Toaster. As for the SGI and WinNT versions,
I've heard those rumors, too. And there's good reports that the Samsung /
Commodore deal has gone through, so we'll soon be calling it the Samsung Amiga.
PMJI, but I heard the term "video toaster" used on TV a couple of
nights ago on that effects special. What is it? Is it hardware, or
software? How does it compare to, say, the SGI system? Thanks for
any replies! 🙂
It's both h/w & s/w & combines CG, Paint, F/x, 3D Anim, and I forget
what else with a Switcher & DVE functions. The harware plugged in to
an Amiga computer. It can't be compared to SGI systems as they're
not the same thing. SGI systems are high-end graphics computers.
