1950 FIX

My C= 1950 monitor has been increasingly going black, at power-on or after
several minutes; after fully warming up it ran well. Long ago there was a
thread here about short-lived 1950's, in which I never saw a fix. I found
serendipitous wiggling of the "TTL-Analog" switch on the
monitor's back would bring it back to life. After spraying contact cleaner
in this multi-pole, circuit-board switch I find the 1950 to be FIXED.
This is an easy thing to try if one has a prematurely retired 1950 on
hand. Removing seven screws allows the housing to be removed and the
switch is readily accessible to a spray-can with a 5" delivery tube;
nothing internal has to be moved (although I did wiggle some of the
plug-ins to this board).

Thanks for passing on the info. I'll keep it on hand in case my old 1950 gives
me problems. However right now that old monitor is doing me much better than
the new 1 year old 1960. Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Do you mean common contact _lense_ cleaning solution? This is amazing.
What properties does this solution contain that make it the miracle
cleaner and how did you determine that this would be best do the
job? Also, what kind of lense cleaning solution? I wear gas permeable
lenses, not soft, so I am wondering if the kind I use would be
perform less well than what you used.

Contact cleaner is an electronics cleaning substance. It usually has lots of
freon in it and is generally terrible for the ozone, but, it does do an amazing
job. You can spray it on electronic motors and circuits even while they are on
as it is non-conductive.

No, No, NO! He meant ELECTRONIC contact cleaner, usually florocarbon
based. Contact LENS cleaner, being water based, would probably have
interesting effects sprayed into electronic devices, but making them work
better would not be one of them. <G>

No, Vicki, I didn't use contact lens cleaner. My stuff was 'Kontact
Restorer' by Chemtronics Inc., Hauppauge, NY 11788. The container says
"Cleans and lubricates all types of electronic contacts". I got it from a
local electronics parts store.
