I just received come information on the UVW series of Sony Betacamn SP decks. It says the Audio frequency response of these decks tops out at 12.5 Khz. Isn't this pretty lousy? I mean Hi-Fi VHS does 20-20,000 Hz, which is supposed to be about CD quality. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks, Kevin Ragsdale

Kevin, I'm using a couple of UVW decks myself. whatever the specs, the audio sounds great… Jerry

Jerry, have you given up on the U-Matics all together now? Vince

Vince, No, my B source deck is still a 3/4 SP. A few months ago, I picked up a really good account that specified BetaSP must be used in all productions for them. I had the choice of renting or buying, and chose to go ahead and upgrade. Of course, around here none of the cable operators or broadcast stations have Beta, so I end up dubbing commercials back to 3/4 SP for them… Jerry

Yes, your numbers are correct as they are for the linear tracks. Apparently, in order to keep costs down the UVW series lacks the capability to process the helical scan audio tracks that would allow the higher bandwidth sound. wmc – via Autopilot!
