If you think about it, the reflections will only run down to the viewer if the
object is behind and above the edge of the reflective surface. However, if you
put that object on the surface, the reflection can only be as it is in your
file.

Thanks for the imput. I suspect that I was responding to an optical illusion.
(See my reply to Ian.) I do not believe that the position of the object above
or above/behind the object will make much of a difference. But I'll take a look
and see if I can observe a difference.
