#Spoiled by AP

I bought a…dare I say it…a PC (gulp!) the other day. Yeah, I sold out,
but who knows what Escom's gonna do, and after I got the "we're out of
business" fax from GVP, I needed something which is going to be around and
supported. But that's not the [point of this message, just the set-up. The
system came with WinCIM installed on it, all I can say is…WinCIM sucks! I am
so spoiled by AutoPilot. It was "great" to see the "time on-line"($$$) click
on by while I was wasting time finding out what's out there, that I don't
access here. It's a royal pain…Frankly, I think I'll use AP to check the PC
related forums…

So put Warp and GCP on that PC. GCP does the same things as AP, though it
isn't nearly as bug-free, and the interface seems to require a lot more
clicking around.

It is the same format as AP — there is a demo version, but you pay for the
commercial version. Unlike AP, it is available in retail stores with a box and
manual and stuff. Again, it is for OS/2, and I only brought it up because
someone was comparing PC software to Amiga software.

Thanks, Dale. By the way, if Warp required? When it comes to the PC I'm a
stranger in a strange land. Granted years of working with the Amiga, have not
gone to waste. But I have lots to learn. I/ve heard og Warp, but…what is
it? Another OS in lieu of MS-DOS?

Yes.
Warp is OS/2 v3. It is probably the most tolerable OS to run on a high-end PC
(you'll really want about 16mb of RAM), unless you really like Unix, in which
case there are a few contenders.

I do the same thing also. I have two PC's but still use APilot because it saves
me money and time.

Your situation is exactly like mine. I too picked up a PC and hated the CIM
(or for that matter any of the term programs) that were offered for the PC.
Now all I do is access any of the forums I want with AP and download to the ole
Amiga. Using a null modem cable I transfer the files from my Amiga to my PC.
Easy and cheap.

Looking forward to it. I bought one for about $20 CAN so depending on the
exchange rate it's at a reasonable price. About the only thing you are going
to next is a terminal host emulator if you go the null modem route. I have a
good one (freeware) that is small and fast if you are so inclined.

I'm with you Trent, A friend of mine has just spent too much money on a
Power Mac and wanted to get online, he obtained a CIS account but faced
with MacCIM and Navigator he's given up baffled at how/why I'm so into
this place.. I'd already told him he needed an Amiga, but of course
they're just games machines.. <g>

Other platforms have thier uses. I got myself a clone for the express purpose
of opening up the available software market (ie games!). I use it _only_ for
that purpose at this time. To do actual work I use my Amiga because I am more
comfortable about operating on the Amiga. That is not to say that if I
encounter a program that does something better than those that I use on my
Amiga, I would not change over.
