Monitor and BB/VGA?

I am negotiating with a gentleman on the purchase of a Seiko multisynch monitor (I forgot the model #) and A2320 for my A2000. The monitor synchs at 31-40 MHz. I also intend to get a Bridboard, VGA card and monitor switchbox in order to use the monitor with both. I assume this monitor monitor will work fine with a VGA card, but would like to know for sure. Thanks….

I don't know awhole lot about these things but it's my understanding that you need a monitor that will go down to 15 Hz to use all display modes of the Amiga. There was an article in AmigaWorld I believe that indicated this.

Ronnie, Well, the way I understand it, (Somebody correct me if I am wrong) you need a monitor that goes down to 15 Hz if you are not using deinterlacer circuitry, i.e a flixer fixer or the A3000's on board deinterlacer. The deinterlacer duffers the Amiga's 15 Hz output and outputs at other freqs. But, if you have an AGA machine, that uses custom chips that can output at several frequencies, you need a Multisynch that goes down to 15 Hz to get all modes.

I guess I am still a little confused. Are us saying that with a flickerfixer but using the normal (noninterlaced) modes of the AMIGA 2000 I do not need a 15 Hz monitor? My interest is in finding a monitor that will work with a flicker fixer, all Amiga display modes as well as a BridgeBoard VGA display. For this I really thought I need to get down to 15 Hz.

Ronnie, To use all Amiga modes, you'll need a multi-sync that works at least down to 15.75 kHz, and a flicker fixer with it to deinterlace when using the interlace modes. You can use a 15.75kHz multi-sync without the FF in all modes, but it will act like an 1084 monitor. chris

Chris, I thought that since a flixer-fixer took output right off the video bus and buffered it for output at different frequency, that 15.75 KHz was not required for all video modes on a non AGA machine. I know that 15.75 KHz is required for AGA machines to work in all Amiga video modes, but they ain't using a buffer.

Michael, I can't recall the exact content of the post I replied to, my history file has been pruned, but I believe it was in reference to 'can a multi-sync monitor be used without a flicker-fixer'. The answer that I have learned from all the threads about M-S monitors and flickerfixers was YES as long as it supported the 15.75 Khz scan rate of the RGB port, but that it would still show the flicker in interlaced modes. Now I use a FF and a 15 kHz able multi-sync, but have never connected directly to the RGB output, so I can't answer absolutely that I've tested the info. So, I'll say that, and leave it open for discussion. Chris

Chris, Yes, I agree that a multisynch hooked up to an Amiga w/o a flixer fixer must sync to 15.75 Khz. Maybe I misunderstood the question.

I was still a bit confused so I went back to previous issues of AmigaWorld and Amazing Computing. This is what I understand from articles there. The standard AMIGA graphics modes (BAGA – before AGA) display at a horizontal scan rate of 15.75 KHz. Certain display enhancers such as the Flicker Fixer double the horizontal scan rate to 31.5 KHz. With a Flicker Fixer ALL of the AMIGA graphics modes go through the FF to display 400 lines at 31.5 KHz. If you want to use a flicker fixer AND be able to go back to the standard AMIGA RGB output you need a multisync that will scan from 15.75 KHz up to 31.5 KHz. I'm still a little uncertain about a BridgeBoard/VGA output. I know it can be used with the same multisync monitor as a flicker fixer but I'm not sure what scan rate or what type of input is needed on the monitor. Can anyone shed any light on this? – via Whap!
