Just wanted to let some of you know that CNN's "Future Watch" specified
that a segment on Babylon 5's computer generated special effects would be
shown on a future show. So the big question is, will the Amiga be
mentioned as the main computer doing the 3D animations? Or will it be the
NewTek Toaster Workstation? Lets hope the Amiga gets some credit in this
segment for a change, and hope it get's more respect from CNN considering
their past segment on Morphing.

Any guesses as to when this segment might appear? Is this a daily
segment, or once a week, or what? I watch Headline News, but miss the rest
of CNN, usually. If you want some really nice coverage of the Amiga in a
surprising place (re: Babylon 5), try to find a copy of this month's
Computer Graphics World. The frequently-seen B5 station pic is on the
cover and it looks great. Inside is a story on how Hollywood is starting
to get over their prejudice about using cheap computers for fancy effects
– TV schedules and budgets have let Amigas and the like in the door. Very
fair, considering this mag is typically for Silicon Graphics, Wavefront,
high-end clones, etc. Not as mass-market as a TV spot, but it's a nice
breath of fresh air, nonetheless.

Karl, I would love to read the story about Babylon 5 in Computer Graphics
World but unfortunately I haven't been able to find the magazine locally.
Could you pass along their telephone number for subscriptions, I would
appreciate it! And as far as when the segment on CNN's "Furture Watch" will
appear, well all they said on the show was a future segment. So that could
be next week, month, etc. I would assume it will be in the next couple of
weeks before the show hits the airwaves.

John, is there a schedule to "Future Watch"? A time or day of the week?
Well Paul I seem to catch "Future Watch" Saturday's at about 12:00 AM or
12:30 AM local time (Pacific). Usually I'm done computing at that time in
the evening so I just go see what's on at that hour. Hopefully someone
else will be able to drop in here to give us a better schedule.

Ooops!! I just realized that 12:00 or 12:30 AM would be Sunday morning so
disregard what I said about Saturday evening. Anyway, I think you get the
idea.

It ain't cheap (very glossy). It's $36 a year for new subscribers. The
card in here states you get a free issue and a free "hacker". The hacker
looks like a 3.5" disk with a blade in it for opening envelopes, I guess.

I know this kinda skews the thread but….
How do you guys store all your magazines? I get around 14 per month and
end up with huge stacks all over the computer room floor. I bought a file
cabinet but they just roll over themselves while sinking and sliding.
Anyone ideas?
I get those magazine boxes that stand on a shelf – each box holds a dozen
or so magazines, making it convenient to keep a year's supply in each box.
Mine came from a place here (part of a chain, tho) called The Container
Store.

I've looked into those magazine boxes a few times over the years, and
they just seemed to expensive for how many I'd get. Have they come down?
Something like the Container Store sounds like they might have something
better than I've seen.

I visit a damaged freight place from time to time,never knowing what to
expect there. A while back, I found those nice magazine boxes (pretty
plastic ones) priced at something like 3/$5, and I bought several. Also,
it is possible to get cardboard ones at pretty low prices. you might have
a look around.

I have a system. It's random. Sometimes I read a magazine, fold over a
corner on articles that I expect I may need to refer to later, put them in
a bookshelf. Sometimes I don't get to them and they stack up. When a shelf
fills up on the bookshelf, I either store them in the attic or throw them
away, depending on how interesting I think they are, or how likely I am to
refer to them. I don't get 14 per month, but I get more than I can read,
as my computer room floor will attest to. BTW, even the slick ones will
stand upright better in a bookshelf (tall, 6' kind) if the shelf is
relatively full than horizontally in a file cabinet, I'd think. You could
put them in folders, I guess. A bookshelf is less likely to fall over and
crush your Amiga than a file cabinet with the top drawer all the way out!
