Hello
This must be a common question asked by visitors from the Windows world. <g>
Is there an Amiga word processor that can read MS Word for Windows documents
and display the documents more or less formated.

I too am having the same problem with displaying/printed imported dcouments
from MicroSoft works…I have even tried copying the MS Works text file to
disk, read by CrossDos into my AMiga's WordPerfect and then tried removing some
of the embedded formating codes…It is a lot of work…almost easier to just
retype the text on the Amiga.. So…I too am looking for a solution..

You may want to post this question to Mike Loader at Soft-Logik on the AMIGAVEN
forum. He is the programmer of PageSteam 3.0 which is great DTP program for
the Amiga. PageStream 3.0 has shipped but is not quite complete – still a
little buggy. PageStream 3.0h is expected to be ready soon with 3.1 sometime
thereafter. Version 3.1 promises to be a very competitive product comparable
if not better (I know it'll be better because I use them) than Pagemaker/Quark.
Soft-Logik is now working on MAC and PC versions of PageStream and will
continue to support the Amiga for cross platform productivity. In answer to
your question regarding MS WORD document imports – I believe Mike Loader is
planning a MS WORD import filter for PageStream in addition to many other
filters. I myself am looking forward to to having this import filter plus the
soon to be released Paper Direct templates. So drop them a note – I'll be
watching for his response as well.

Interesting thing, Brown = Braun in german!
Anyway, the German Word Processor Beckertext III includes a program which is
able to konvert MsWord documents into Beckertext format. I never tried it, but
will do it in the next few days. This program is only available with the Word
Processor but the readme file says that you can contact the programmer:

Beckertext is only capable of reading MS Word for DOS documents. It can't read
or convert Winword documents.

In theory WordWorth does although from my experience it's better to exchange
files in RTF format. Wordworth just strips out most of the formatting details
anyway so RTF is more consistent.
