#What is blitzblank

Alexander,
>It is the BEST blanker for the Amiga. It is in the Screen Utilities section.
It is Giftware and even has a module with grafix from me in it (AmigaSign) 😉
You did the Amigasign? WOW! It's one of my favorite ones! I did the
butterfly one! It didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to and I may re-do
it later. Have you seen the Arose module for BB? It's spectacular!

Methinks it's time I changed my screenblanker…

I like Blitzblanker, but it is missing one important feature…. a random
module selector.

Hi Jonathan,
>> I like Blitzblanker, but it is missing one important feature…. a random
module selector.
Well, I don't know what version of BlitzBlank you are using, but the 2.50 and
up definetly have a random module selector. You just double-click on the module
you want to put on the list and it will be displayed in bold typeface. This way
you can select as many modules as you want for the random function. The only
other thing you have to do is to set the "random time" to the desired time and
off you go…

Jonathan,

Huh? It does random selection just fine here. What you do is double click
on the names of the modules you want to be used randomly and save the settings.
Have I misunderstood your problem?

Hi Asha,

Yes. But I must admit, that I have only made the grafix 🙂 But thank you anyway
very much 🙂 Do you use the 256 color version? In my opinion this is much
better than the 16 color one…

I know that you have made the butterflies. And they are one of my favorites 🙂
Thomas is a very good friend of mine and I am one of the beta testers, We did
most of the modules together (me beeing the one unable to program but very able
to go on his nerves what to implement ;)).
I don't know if you remember, but we have met before in Amiga_Int. We sent a
few netmails back and forth when the A4000 was due and you badly wanted any
information you could get ;))

Same with me and the butterflies. I'd like to do another one, and possibly
redo the butterflies (they don't flutter right) but I just haven't had the time
or any real inspiration lately..;/

us what Escom's doing in Germany… You are in Germany right? 🙂 🙂

Here is something that I would love to see in BlitzBlank that I miss from both
SuperDark and DesktopMagic… MOD players or at least some animations WITH
sound. Actually, I think most modules should have a sound option and that
there should be some sort of module that plays mods with some type of screen
effect.

Well, the sound support is planned for one og the next releases, but to what
extend is not yet sure. The best thing would be if a programmer would come up
with some kind of module for BlitzBlank that uses sound. Then Thomas could work
out what routines have to be implemented into BlitzBlank and most important
into the library, so that other modules can use this functions as well.
Maybe you feel the strong urge to make such a module? ;))

That would be nice! Hopefully, Alexander Wiggert has seen that and will
pass the suggestion on to Thomas Boerkel (author). If not, I'll try to remember
to do so next time I email him.

Yes I am. But unfortunately I only have the net as my best source at the
moment. But a friend of mine is working in an ESCOM store and he knows someone
who knows (same old story ;)) the owner of ESCOM. I hope to get some
information from him…

Oh dear…I've been flat on my back for the majority of the last week, and
am still taking muscle relaxants (bad back). I barely get through my mail…:(
Tell Thomas that I've sent him netmail (most of what I've attempted to gate
recently either never arrived or bounced back). My Fido mail has been rather
sporadic lately. I may have to change bossnodes (and that means my addresses
will change) but haven't decided yet.

Absolutley! I really love Blitzblank, and best of all, it's SOLID!! 🙂

Ok, I'll tell him that. He also experienced some problems with his hub, so
maybe these two problems are responsible. Did the latest beta version arrive?
He sent one some time ago.

He sent one some time ago.
I've gotten two betas from him in the past few weeks. Both work just fine
(as I tried to tell him in email). I suspect his hub problems are adding to
mine, but there is a lot of lost mail (both outgoing and incoming) that
shouldn't be getting lost. In other words, it's not just Thomas's problems
that are plaguing my mail…;/

🙁 Maybe you should just try to re-mail the messages to him. He should be able
to receive them now. That the betas are working okay is very good. You know:
any problems -> just mail ;))

Oops, I forgot to comment on this. Yes this modle is definetly awesome. I would
really like to know if this is based on tables or on a function. Anyway it
looks great. I could sit for hours and watch it :))

Alex
P.S.: There already are a few more modules in the tube (Plasma, Flying Toaster,
Gravity, Skyline, Starfield and some more). The next version should be ready
for release if the authors submit their final releases. The reblank feature is
also implemented and works quite well…

I've got it twice in the Modules directory so that it displays more often.
Oh yeah, forgot in the last message, I'm running all of the modules
(including the fake Guru) in 256 640X480.

Sounds great. Two modules that I miss from Garshneblanker are the Maze and
Goats, it would be nice to get modules like those for BB too!
What's reblank?

Hi Asha,
>> I've got it twice in the Modules directory so that it displays more often.
I keep Thomas bugging to implement a feature that lets you configer the display
time for each module, so that you can say that the AMosaic should run 5
minutes, the snow 2 minutes, the Guru 30 secs, etc. when in random mode. He
promised to do it :))
>> Oh yeah, forgot in the last message, I'm running all of the modules

Well, then it should look very nice. Thomas keeps telling me I should make
another rendering with lightning/shade and better anti-aliasing. What do you
think?
>> Sounds great. Two modules that I miss from Garshneblanker are the Maze

Maze is already converted. I forgot to mention this 🙂 I will ask Thomas about
the goats.
Dirk Farin sent his bugfixed/new modules yesterday. There is a gravity module
that looks very nice. I hope the next version will be released soon…
>> What's reblank?
Well, reblank works like this:
When the blanker is running and a program running in the background switches
it's screen to the foreground, the blanker usually stops (e.g. Quarterback
asking for the next disk). With reblank you can determine the time that will
pass after this has happened until the blanker is started again. E.g. You are
making a backup of your HD and the blanker starts. Quarterback switches to the
foreground and thus stops the blanker. You see it and insert the next disk.
Then you don't have to wait until the timer for blanktime reaches 0 again, but
the reblank timer is starting it's countdown. Therefore it's possible that the
blanker restarts for instance 5 seconds after the task (Quarterback) stopped
the blanker…
I hope this is understandable (also took me a while ;).

Oh goodie! This will be a nice addition to the program.

Well it is a bit fuzzy, but I don't really think it needs to be re-done
unless YOU are unhappy with it. Better to create something else completely
new, don't you think?

Oh, this is wonderful! When do us users get the Maze? My husband absolutely
loved the Goats, he'll be happy to hear that they may be converted too!

Hi Asha,
>> Oh goodie! This will be a nice addition to the program.
I thought so, too 😉 But I don't think it will make it into the next release.
Right now he is pondering over the transition of BlitzBlankPrefs from
BlitzBasic to C. This will be a rather tough one, since the whole GUI has to be
redone! But on the other hand he can implement all the changes he wanted to do
😉

Hmm, do you have any good ideas? I'm pretty short on ideas right now, because I
have lots of exams to do 🙁

Well, about the goats he said "no problem". So I think he might have converted
it right away. Maybe I'll get the first beta of it this evening ;)) The maze
will be in the next release.
>> I hope so too!
I am hoping with you, but it seems very likely that the next version will be
released sometime next week.

Let's see, some kind of spaceship (B5, the Starfuries, NC 1701) might be
nice, or maybe some "flying" (with wings) Boing balls or something like that.
I'm considering trying to do some swans or ducks (with "water") animations but
have no idea when I'll be able to start doing them. Probably won't be for a
while…

Hmm, I will think about that. What should the spaceship do? Maybe just fly
around before some starfield background?

Hmm, that sounds nice. We would really like to have some more original blank
modules instead of just "copying" the others. But it gets better all the
time… 🙂

I will surely upload the next release here in CIS and because Thomas thinks
about a date around tuesday next week, I guess he won't send any more betas
until then ;))
