I need some help with my monitor. I turned on my system today, and the monitor
just gives off this whinning sound, and says black. I put my hand up to the
screen, and the normal static electricity reaction wasn't there. It was if the
monitor wasn't even on…. It is the Commodore 1950 monitor. any suggestions??
Any idea who manufactured this thing so that I can tell a repair shop just what
it is??

The 1950 was made by AOC. Sounds like a flyback/horizontal output problem.
I'd guess the whining sound is the switching power supply straining to
drive a heavy load…. but then monitors are not my strong suit.

I'll have to see what the repair shop has to say now. I know the 1950 was old,
but compare to the 1084 I had to recconnect, boy is the 1950 great!

Sometimes knowing the manufacturer isn't much help… but you might get
lucky. Philips (half of the 108x monitors) was very helpful, but Daewoo
(the other half) wasn't. On the otherhand a repair shop ought to have
enough parts catalogs to search through.
Since you have a 3000, you can use a clone type VGA monitor… so long as
you don't turn off the deinterlacer or run software that bypasses it.

Unfortunately, I have a 2000, not a 3000. But I do have flicker fixer..

Well, that ought to be the same situation. So long as you don't disable
the flicker fixer by switch or software, a VGA monitor will work. Going
back to a 1080 must be painful. I'm still using my 1080, but it's dying. I
need to open 'er up and fix the vertical circuitry. I'm also trying to
convert an old IBM CGA monitor to analog RGB. Never fix, when you can
redesign, eh. 🙂

I don't have a problem running any of the software in any configuration on
my SVGA monitor off of my 3000. Though if you pick 640×400 and turn off
the deinterlacer, the jitter comes back.
