#SEA Files ?

Hi there,
Does anyone know how to get a .SEA file to extract. It is supposed to be
selfextracting, but it tries to open up Teactext. I'm using this on
Shapeshifter on the Amiga. The actual file is stufit.sea which i need to
extract to get at the .sit files. Help anyone ?

".sea files" are self extracting archives. They extract when you doubleclick
their icon. You – probably – downloaded the file using a IBM or Amiga terminal
program. That won't work, since the MacIntosh has a "strange" file system and
you lost the vital information that tells the Mac "this is a binary file".
Thus, he opens TechText.
This is not only true for ".sea" files but for all binary files.
There are several ways to fix this problem:
1. Using Mac terminal software…
and you will never ever have to deal with it. Download the file again on
your Mac.
2. BinHex5 for Mac, MacSee for Windows and so on.
If you need to download Mac software through a non-Mac PC go to the Mac
New Users Help Forum (GO MACNEW). They have a series of articles and files
that will solve the problem.

Thanks, I am just about coming round to that having brought a whole heap of
software from work which dearcs perfectly (but is from a mac). I'll check out
Macnew, (I have a free cover disk ver of MACSIM and will try that).

Icon ? Well I solved my probs with stufit.sea. If you are having the same the
gist is that if you dl stufit.sea via a pc/amiga, it loses its macbinary
resource fork, and therefore the system thinks its the default
teachtext/simpletext doc and gives it a text icon. Therefore it won`t unarc. If
you go macnew, there is info on this. What I did on shapeshifter was to use
MacCim, and I dl the soft and hey presto it unarced a treat.
The golden rule is that you need to get the .sea file onto your mac side
directly if you can else you need a third party translator.
If that is not the issue then please clarify.
