I am an optimist, but all this sounds very bad. In my opinion, and I believe many will support me on this, all these intets should have been decided durin a year long buy-out process. I think Escom is pulling our chain. I seriously doubt that they will reintroduce amiga, the statement of A4000 redesign should be enough to support that. (This redesign could take years and months, turning simply into promiss) Sounds to me like Escom is just going for the PC's.

Peter Kittel said that the CASE of the 4000 would be changed but that the internals would be the same as before as re-design AT THIS POINT would cause too much of a delay. The old A4000 cases were a special case. I suspect Escom wants to use an off-the-shelf case instead. This should not be a difficult or time consuming task As for their intents, until proven otherwise I choose to believe what they are saying to us, to Reuters, to the Wall St. Journal. Yes, it's possible they're just blowing smoke up our skirts (or pants as the case may be) but lets at least give them the benifit of the doubt before we doom and gloom ourselves to death. But then, you have the right to whatever opinion you wish to hold…. Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot Asha

I was under impression that they would redesign the A4000 (better memory bus, SCSI, flicker fixer). Thanks for pointing that out

Thanks for pointing that out What probably makes it even more confusing, is that Escom did say (elsewhere I think) that they were planning on fixing/changing some of the things in the AGA line, but NOT RIGHT AT FIRST as it would delay the shipment of product too much right now. Guess we'll have to wait a bit longer to see how/what they really do…:) Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot Asha

Asha- What concerns me is that sales of the initial 4000s might be hurt enough by the prospect of fixed ones–which really make me drool–that they might decide to abandon the whole thing as a bad job. Mr. Zombie

Gene, You said and I quote, "Ah, I see, I did mis-read it. I was under impression that they would redesign the A4000 (better memory bus, SCSI, flicker fixer)." Well, at least they can fix the memory bus and SCSI deficiencies by installing a MacroSystem Development (MSD) Warp Engine, into every new A4000. That would certainly go a long way. Indeed, I talked with MSD a couple of months back and they were willing to negotiate a deal with whomever gets the Amiga technology. We all know that it is tentatively ESCOM AG. Regards, John Chang

John- But just think how expensive that would be! Granted, the added $500 (and that's probably way too conservative) would be worth it, but still! We'd be talking about $3000 A4000s. Mr. Zombie

Unless they have a mountain of 1200s amd 4000s to get rid of, I don't see any reason for blowing as much "smoke" as they have been. Unless they are run by rabid Anti Amiga fanatics who were part of the world wide plot to buy the Amiga to prevent the technology from falling into the hands of those who would have blown the IBM PC, and the Mac out of the water. <grin> As for $3B in sale in three years, in the U.S…. Hmmmmm…
