My boss wants me to do a fly by of his 50 Acres in hilly southern Ohio with
3ds. I did a stacked topo but we didn't like the steps. What's Vistpro, what's
their BBS# and what did you download. Look forward to hearing from you.

There are other ways to do this besides vistapro, and I don't think that will
help you anyway, with such a small area as 50 acres.
I could create a landscape mesh for you if you still have the 3d topo lines. I
can convert it to a mesh real easy.
You wont get the kind of resolution you need with vistapro.
I do this kind of thing all the time.

Vistapro is a fractal landscape program that generates 3D landscapes from USGS
digital elevation maps, and is a stand-alone program for generating stills or
animations. In this case I just used it to convert a text file containing Z
coordinates into a Vistapro-readable file (DEM format), which I then exported
as DXF to 3D Studio.
Their BBS# is 805.781.2257, the file is Z2DEM.LZH.

If you're looking for a reallllyyyy fast DTM generator, I am using one that
will process 20k points in 15 seconds on a 100 Mhz 486. At $495, it's real
bargain. DXF input/output is included. It's called TerraModel, and I would be
happy to tell you more about it.
I'm interested in the Terramodel landscape simulator. I have a landscape arch.

I don't know if my answer will help you but there is a utility call gifdxf
which convert gif files into dxf files. It's quit interesting for
terramodeling.
If you want more precision, ask for it !

Ignacio – TerraModel CONTOUR is not a landscape modeller in the sense that
LandCADD product is.
TerraModel is a series of modules tailored to the civil engineering / land
modeling environment. If you are looking for a program to generate meshed land
forms quickly and efficiently, you will not find a better software than
TerraModel.
If you are looking for a landscape design package that supports multiple
vegetation types and such, look to the AutoCAD environment with products like
LandCADD.
As one other option – If what you are looking to do is some 3d renderings of
sites that you have designed landscaping for, a hybrid solution may be ideal
for you. Use TerraModel for your landform modeling, export the landscape mesh
into AutoCAD with a .DXF file, then use something like AccuRender or AutoVision
in AutoCAD to create trees and ground coverages, and to produce renderings and
animations.
