Steve, If you are trying to use network rendering with MARS, another way would be to render to TGA's or JPG's on a shared HDD and then load the sequence into the VideoPost module and then render to the MARS. Since you are going to MPEG it anyway, JPEG's with a medium-high quality will would work pretty well. Hope that helps Ang, President, Dynamic Technologies, Inc. You actually wouldn't even need VideoPost, as the MARS will take an IFL file and convert it directly to an MPEG, as long as the files are TGA's. Like Steve, I've been unable to do the same with .JPG's, even though it's supposed to. John

It would be an interesting test to try varying Q-factors on serial JPEGS and then MPEG them with the software and see where the level is where the resulting MPEG is visably different. Ang, That's what we've been doing but I was hoping for a quicker, one pass solution. Also, by rendering to .TGA's first, you really don't need the MARS system to convert them to MPEG. We've been using some shareware encoders that work just as nice and playing them back through a RealMagic board and a VGA->NTSC encoder, FWIW. – Steve Ormonde

I've been playing with a program called CMPEG. (Browse the COMANIM forum by MPEG, the file is called CMPG10.exe) Visually, I think it's just as good as the MARS utilities (I don't have any measuring equipment) and it seems to take about the same time to convert. You may want to try your own comparison. Let me know if you try it… – Steve Ormonde
