NOTICE**** ALL THOSE INTERESTED IN A 3DS-COMPATIBLE B-SPLINE MODELER ****
Incredible Freeform B-Spline Modeling System with Export to 3DS4.
Finally, a workstation-class Freeform B-Spline Modeling / Deformation System
with flawless export to 3DS. Import variable resolution triangle meshes for
use in the core 3DS system, or with other plug-ins such as BONES PRO, etc.. Or,
import just the B-Spline LATTICE for use with the Yost Group's SKIN / SLICE
routines! All lattices exported are completely compatible with SKIN / SLICE,
thus the parametric surface can be re-created and animated in 3DS. Also, the
parametric mapping coordinates are preserved for easy texture mapping. This
modeling system is unlike anything you've ever seen on a PC.
As a bonus, a very thorough book about Spline Modeling, which is part of a
larger book on using this modeling system, will be available soon, and will be
included with the modeling system. A sample rendering, a mesh, extensive
documentation, and a screen grab of the main interface is being uploaded to the
library here. CHECK IT OUT!

RealGirl.zip (uploaded to IMAGES section)
============
…long story short, I've been working with a company which is about to release
an amazing, very complete B-Spline modeler, and a book I'm writing on B-Spline
modeling with specifics related to this package. You may be interested to know
that polymeshes can be flawlessly exported to 3DS. But, what's really
interesting is that the *lattice* can be exported, and RE-SKINNED and
parametrically mapped in 3DS using YG's SKIN/SLICE routines ! RealGirl.jpg is 4
views of a racy female mesh in lingerie, which was produced using this system
in *one day*. The mesh is pretty simple for a human mesh (only 6500 or so
vertex lattice), but is quite effective. The lattice was re-skinned with
SKIN.axp, and the "lingerie" and other mapping demonstrates the precise
parametric mapping you can apply in 3DS.
**Anyone offended by a female mesh in lingerie should avoid this upload.** An
extensive text document is included which explains this new product. The
CONTENTS.txt/wri document included with REALGIRL.ZIP is a one-page summary of
the Table of Contents for the book, and the EXCERPTS.txt/wri document are
selected passages from just the *introduction* to the book. They are provided in
Windows Write format (best), or plain ASCII text formatted for the 3DS text
editor at 800×600. A grab of the main interface screen that I created is also
included, but you can create your own if you like.
GirlMesh.zip (uploaded to MESH/PROJECT FILES section)
============
GirlMesh.zip is the actual 3DS Skin lattice mesh project after importing and
applying Skin.axp. Note that the mesh was not really built to be animated,
requires YG's SKIN.axp, and does not include the maps (sorry). But you should
check it out.
Here's a little blurb, but *much* more in the upload:
The program includes a workstation-class quadric B-Spline Modeling &
Deformation System,
unlike anything ever to appear on the PC platform….in some cases, on any
platform. And,
the meshes can be exported to 3D Studio as std. triangle meshes, or export just
the spline
mesh' s CONTROL LATTICE for use with the Yost Group's SKIN & SLICE routines!
Yes,
the exported control lattices are completely compatible with Skin & Slice,
allowing
re-creation of the parametric surface within 3D Studio. Use SKIN to read the
lattice and
generate a B-Spline or Catmull-Rom Surface, and use SLICE to re-create the
cross-sections.
The cross-sections can then be linked to a dummy skeleton, and animated with
Inverse
Kinematics, or via the conventional Foward Kinematics system. No need to worry
about texture
mapping these imported lattices, as parametric mapping coordinates can be
applied with a
single mouse-click, which results in surface contour mapping as if the mesh was
lofted in
3D Studio with mapping coordinates on.
You have complete control over the desired resolution for the exported mesh or
lattice.
You can even specify whether the SLICE routine will re-create horizontal or
vertical
cross-sections. Since the lattices are composed of a minimum amount of
vertices,
further refinement in 3D Studio is made much easier. If you like, you can also
export
just individual cross-sections for import into the Editor, or the 2D Shaper.
You can use
the exported meshes, with optimizations applied inside the program, as an
ideally structured
object for applying Digimation s BONES PRO deformations, via a user-defined
skeltonal control structure. There are other features which assist one in
easily creating
contour strings of spheres for Metaballs, and other such desireable procedures.
Constuct 3D freeform curves quickly and easily by placing control points or
knot points.
The curve is displayed as you construct it, or just display the control
lattice. There are
ample controls for defining the resolution of the mesh s rule lines, viewing
knotpoints,
curve direction, start point, etc.. Snap-to COG s, points, and grid assist in
constructing
precision models. Points can be defined interactively, from numeric input, or
procedurally – using the native Programming Language.
The extremely powerful and extensive Linear & Non-Linear Transformations
& Deformations are quite unique, and so simple to operate. There are no special
routines or other preparations such as FFD lattices, magnets, etc. which must
be
employed. Using just 2-3 mouse clicks, you can perform these operations on
Curves,
Meshes, or just Selected Control Points.
The program' s asynchronous design allows zero wait-state operation, therefore
starting new operations does not affect existing operations in the background.
You can
literally design your own interface, save variations for specialized
situations, and re-
load anytime as needed in a session. While the program includes a full-featured
Raytracer,
you also can produce scanline-speed, parametrically raytraced, smooth shaded
object
previews in seconds. This program also features a complete physics-driven
Procedural
Animation System, as well as Macro Recording, and a complete Programming
Language. These features can be used to assist in modeling operations as well.
For
example, using control curves to define the profiles of a mesh, you can sweep a
cross-
section along these "rails" over time. A new cross-section will be created
and
positioned for every frame, which is constrained by the profile curves. This is
similar to
3D Studio's Deform/Fit, but potentially more powerful.
The program also includes a very complete set of Quadric Primitives, as well as
a
complex Compound Quadric generator. Boolean operations can be performed on these
true mathematical solids, a B-Spline skin applied using the various
Shrink-Wrapping
methods, and then the mesh can be exported to 3D Studio in various ways. A
bitmap, or
the built-in Fractal Generator can be used as a Displacement Map to shape a B-
Spline mesh. There are also procedural routines which can place a large number
of
objects on a surface, or to fill a volume defined by a surface.
There are many more features too numerous to mention here, plus as mentioned,
it
includes a Physics-based Animation System, Materials Editor, sophisticated
RayTracer, and a Programming Language. Coupling this fabulous Modeling System
with flawless Export capabilities as mentioned above, with 3D Studio's very
popular
and powerful system, provides a combination which is hard to beat on any
computer
platform. 3D Studio users have requested such a system for some time,
and finally…..it s available!
OFF THE CUFF: I have been working very closely with this company, helping to
develop this product and document it's use adequately. I'm going to be very
honest with you…While the first version (2.50) available soon for $595
(including the book) is not perfect as specified, it is *almost* perfect, and
completely blows away any modeling system on any non-SGI platform. There is a
full-credit upgrade to 3.xx, which takes another step toward perfection for
just a little more money, and work on 4.xx will commence this summer, and will
included NURBS. It is my goal to achieve **better than** ALIAS-quality spline
modeling on a PC with 3DS geometry compatibility, and by the time 4.xx is
released, I believe that goal will be achieved. It's pretty incredible right
now, and features much more than I'll attempt to mention here.
DOWNLOAD THE FILES, AND CHECK IT ALL OUT!

Or, I'd be glad to accept inquiries or E-Mail myself, regarding the *content*
of the software or the book.

Sounds wonderful, Bill!
Can't wait to check it out…
-Alan
Thanks Alan. Let me know what you think.
BILL
"Can't wait to check it out…"
What? the program or the image of the girl on lingerie? My question is: why a
girl on lingerie? If you want a female, because of the curves or whatever, why
don't get a model of a greek statue without the lingerie. Boy, isn't this forum
getting _strange_ or what?
ana /krazy images
Actually, Ana, I was talking about the program, but now that you mention
it…<g>
Seriously, I just don't know the answer to your question "Why a girl on
lingerie?" I guess everyone has their own idea of how to illustrate the
capabilities of any particular media.
As long as it is within forum guidelines, I suppose there won't be any official
exception taken.
-Alan
PMJI,
Alan, Ana;
Just an observation but men make up the bulk of 3D Studio Users, This is
neither right or wrong, it's just a fact. I think I could get mostly everyone
to agree that men and women react differently to visual stimulation.
Men are highly stimulated visually.
I would think that may also have a lot to do with the sucess of the Victoria's
Secret mail-order folks. Women in general realize this and those that do pay
attention to this type of advertising, react by purchasing the product..
I'd like to point out that I haven't had the chance to download this girl on
lingerie image so I'm speaking about these types of images in general.
Also that my 22 year old daughter still receives her mail here, so no wise
cracks about the Victoria's Secret Magazine. <BG>
So who'd you like to see in a pair of Speed O's Ana? <GR&D>
Murph'
Hey Alan/Ana,
PMJI, and I didn't see what led up to this message:
<< Seriously, I just don't know the answer to your question "Why a girl on
lingerie?" I guess everyone has their own idea of how to illustrate the
capabilities of any particular media. >>
I most sincerely apologize if I offended anyone – male or female – with the
upload. Here's why it exists: Realsoft wanted a mapped example, my time is all
taken up with the book, I threw the thing together and said "how can I show
complex parametric mapping QUICKLY which help to mask seams, what fits this
particular mesh, and what can I do to attract additional attention <g>. My wife
had a Victoria's Secrets catalog laying out on the coffee table at the time, I
looked through it for makeup ideas since I'm a TERRIBLE artist, and Voila!….I
decided the lingerie was an ideal solution for the 3-item criteria. Considering
about 120 d/l's in a few days, I guess the LAST CRITERIA ITEM (attract
additional attention) was a pretty good guess <ggg>.
Regards & apologies,
BILL
I was only teasing you, Alan. I don't mind what they use for their demos at
all. As a firmly believer in freedom and anarchy, I don't care at all my
friend. If you don't like it, don't look at it or don't buy it. But for sure,
don't burn it, ok? <g>
ana /krazy images
PMJI Anna, but as I pointed out in the message to Alan, I put clothes on the
model to demonstrate that you could still use more complex mapping on the
re-skinned geometry import. I could have done this by making her a superhero or
something, but that's been done before. The other points are spelled out in the
message to Alan. Plus, I had to do the whole da** thing in a day. The fact that
it may appeal to the purient interests of most males, is a complete coincidence
<ggg>.
BILL
Bill, really, I don't mind about this at all. I was just joking with Alan. If
you want to illustrate the virtues of the modeler with position number 134 in
the Kamasutra, that's your choice. My only concern is for anybody (in this case
you) that post any kind of material that a group of puritans could call it
inmoral. I hate to see when a bunch of moralist get against anyone for the most
stupid things you can think of. Specially when most of these moralist groups
are just sexual repressed hypocritical "ladies and gentlemen" with too much
free time in their hands and some misunderstandings about what religion is. You
have done well with that bottom warning, even for a thing as stupid as a
computer generated nude. These days, nobody knows for what and from whom could
come the lawsuits 🙂
"Beeeeebare! Beeeebare of the monster!" (<-Bela Lugosi's voice) <g>
ana /krazy images
ps.Boy, am I being too hard these days or it is just my imagination (or the
fact that I have seen Natural Born Killers, Nikita and The Professional in just
one night yesterday) <g>?
Oye Ana,
Como es que sabes tu de la posicion 134?
Creeia yo que El Caudillo quemo todos esos libros degenerativas.
<g>
Alec Jason
<< Natural Born Killers, Nikita and The Professional in just one night >>
That'll do it, for sure <g>. I'm just joking around with you too, Ana. 🙂
Regards,
BILL
After seeing all these three movies in a row… well, it would be better if you
don't make any jokes about me <bg>
Elektra
(aka ana /krazy images 😉
<< After seeing all these three movies in a row… well, it would be better if
you don't make any jokes about me <bg> >>
YIKES!!!! I'm outta' here……………………….<g>
BILL
>>After seeing all these three movies in a row… well, it would be better if
you don't make any jokes about me <bg>
Not even something like, "What would she be like after seeing the Toxic
Avenger, Blades, and The Monster in the Closet, all in a row?" ;^).
>>I am going to get a few new animes soon
Know of any good newer anime? Since the move to my current location 1 1/2 years
ago I've sort of been cut off from anime. The last thing I saw that I really
liked was Porco Rosso.
John Stetzer
JWS
Well, Troma films great but not quite as esoteric as NBK. There so much to talk
about that movie, so many things going on regarding our society and behaviour.
Or you can take it as a big dark joke. Whatever you want 🙂
Porco Rosso is way cool. I don't know yet what they are sending me [from Spain]
but they have told me the movies are a real delight.
ana /krazy images
I had a feeling you were kidding around, Ana, but there was no obvious clue,
and I certainly did not want to assume anything.
Go ahead and tease all you want — I guess I deserve it after that "fantasies"
comment last week.<g> Actually, I'm working on modeling a
Japanese/Manga/Anime-type girl, so I'm as guilty as anyone of enjoying
semi-naked women. Oh well, we all have our own stimuli, don't we?
>>If you don't like it, don't look at it or don't buy it.<<
Yeah, I'd go along with that!
-Alan
Alan,
I am going to get a few new animes soon. I hope they will release the new
Katsuhiro Otomo's movie on video soon, since I lost my opportunity of seeing it
in the theater. BTW, saw the ad for poser on macworld. Maybe you should want to
take a look at it. I am going to buy it, so if you want I can send you an image
to show you what this toy can do. Let me know if you want it.
ana /krazy images
I'm using "Devil Hunter Yohko" for my Anime Girl model, Ana. I worked on her
all day today and made some decent progess.
Hmm…what's this toy you are talking about? Is it some sort of animation
armature?
-Alan
I was talking about a software toy from Fractal Design. It is called Poser and
althought right now it is only for the PowerMac, maybe we are going to see it
for Windoze soon. From the screenshots I have seen, it is pretty amazing. I can
send you a few JPEGs if you want to take a look at it.
ana /krazy images
Poser? Haven't a clue what that mught be. Coming from FD, though, I could only
imagine. I'd love to see a jpg!
I appreciate it Ana,
-Alan
Two JPEGs are on their way. I have an Acrobat file with includes screenshots of
the program itself, hot it works, etc. but is is half megabyte. They don't have
it in Fractal's forum, but maybe I can upload it here (what do you think sirs?
take 5/want ads library?). If they release it for Windoze (if you don't have a
Mac to run it now), certainly this is is a tool that 3DS animators won't want
to be without (hey, maybe they are going to hire Gus and make it an IPAS out of
it <bg>). Also it will work great as a 24 hour model if you want to just draw
or paint human figure (and you don't have a clue about anatomy). It seems to be
a gorgeous piece of software.
ana /krazy images
Anna:
I believe someone in FRACTAL or whatever the GO word is for the Painter Users
Group forum is these days, said that FD told them that no PC version was
planned.
Dave
Yes, I just read that in the Acrobat press release. The thing export DXFs
though, and these could be used with 3DS. After seeing the PRs and the
screenshots (I am going to recieve it in two weeks), I feel lucky to have
PowerMacs.
ana /krazy images
Bill,
This sounds quite exciting !!!
Spring is a cool time to get news like this. Everything is blooming, all the
little critters are just showing up in the yard, and you get that feeling like
it's time to redefine the medium and create with a vengance !!! Sounds like
this offering might make that it bit easier. ( I think I may have gotten
too much oxygen on my run this morning)
Anyway, good luck with your writing and I'll be waiting to hear a release date.
Brendan G.
Thanks Brendan, let me know what you think.
BILL
Bill,
Is this the program from Seamless? Started out for ship-lofting in
Canada, recently merged w/another co. under this new name?
Kevin Krell – Computer Support Associates
Hi Kevin,
Nope. Please d/l the info from the libraries. Then E-Mail me if you're
interested, and if I can answer any questions for you.
Thanks,
BILL
What's this wonder program called?
Curious.
