#Digimation

I'm not in Graphic's business, and my work as nothing to do with graphics. I've
been trying to learn 3D Studio since January, but I don't seem to find enough
time to learn. I have so may things to do, that when I manage to go back to 3DS
I've already forgot the last things I've learned.
So, I would like to buy those Digimation videos, along with some IPAS, and I
would like to know your opinion.

I've purchased or seen everything you listed and it's an excelent choice in
products.
I've had the pleasure of dealing with the Digimation people for about 2 years
and they are the best when it comes to 3rd party support for 3D Studio.

Vern,
Thanks for your advice on Digimation produtcs. I'll order it all on Monday.
Alvaro
I only know LenZFX, Mirage and Bubbles. LenZFX is a "must have" IPAS. You
should really add RayMan the 3D Studio raytracer engine to your list, also
available from Digimation.
Michael
Michael,
I'll order next week the tapes and the Ipas.
As for Rayman, I'll have a look at it, but I can't afford to buy it now,
because I'm buying as well the DPS-PAR.
Thanks,
Alvaro
Hi, Alvaro,
Sorry: couldn't help noticing your plans to buy a DPS PAR. I'm a
college graduate with a taste for the expensive. With a government loan, I'll
probably have enough money for a PAR myself: I've heard so much about it. Is it
the easiest and most inexpensive way to capture killer 30fps 24bit video and to
output real-time 30fps truecolor animations? Is the price falling, cause I
could wait in that case…
Thanks for all the info in advance!
Philippe,
I don't have much information now, but I'll receive a catalog on Monday and I'm
attending a demonstration by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, you may want to check the two FAQ files on DPS.

As for the price, I don't expect prices to fall down. It would be very nice,
specially for the PAL system that is much more expensive than the NTSC.
Alvaro
Philippe,
I've been using the PAR and TCB-IV for about 6 months now. I think you
described it pretty well. It is easy to install, use, and the output is great!
Just get a HD large enouth to hold the amount of video you need. Approx 8-10
min per GIG of HD space. If you are interested in buying used, Wait a couple of
months and people upgrading to the new PVR will be selling their PAR systems.
There is no scheduled lowering of the PAR price due to the fact that PVR
doesn't replace the PAR directly, both will be sold at the same time.

Thanks Matthew.
BTW, would you avoid buying a Micropolis second-hand? I'm under the impression
Micropolis HDs are a virtual steal… Also, what does "dedicated" mean
exactly? Does it represent " constant information transfering " or something
like that?
Thanks
Philippe,
First, dedicated means that you have a HD hooked up to the PAR board's IDE
controller that can't be used by the system normally, every Targa file copied
or written to that drive is converted to the PAR's compressed .ANI format. This
means that even though it can be seen as drive D:, E:, or F:… It can't be
used to store anything but .ANI files.
As far as the drives go, I think that even more drives are compatible than
the Micropolis line now. When I bought mine last Aug the Micropolis were the
only certified drives. Mine is a 1.62GB 2217A, I haven't checked lately but
they should be fairly inexpensive now.

Hey Michael,
PMJI, but is there a NT Rayman (I forgot) ? If not, any plans ?
Thanks,
BILL
Hi Bill,
there will be a NT version as soon as we have the NT version of 3DS. Until
then we`ll sell RayMan R2 with animation support, incredible speed and image
quality improvement and some other nice features. R2 will be at the early end
of the year.
Michael
Thanks Michael.

Hey Alvaro,
My user group (3DAATB) purchased the training videos from Digimation
last year…the membership loves them…..to my knowledge the character
animation tapes have not shipped yet, but will soon. The folks at Digimation
are great to deal with. I would highly recommend the purchase of their training
tapes. The video post tape happens to be my personal favorite….but then again
I haven't seen the new ones yet. Good luck and don't forget to do the
tutorials…they are equally as important.

Jeffery,
I'm ordering the tapes and the Digimation Ipas next week.
I hope they can shipas well, the character animation tapes listed in their
catalog, because I would like to have customs problems only once. 🙁 Thank you
for remaind me about the tutorials. I read them as often as I can, but
sometimes it is very difficult for me to understand some terms and concepts (
English is not my first language). I hope that with the help of the tapes, and
can improve my 3DS knowledge.
Thanks for your help
